Venn Diagram (app.1)

  • Ask children to read the story at home.

  • Give each child a “Venn Diagram” (維因圖) (App.1) or “Zoom in! Robodog” fact sheet (App.2)

  • Ask children to finish it at home and bring it back on the reading lesson.

  • With “Venn Diagram”, children will learn to compare and contrast features between robodog (Chip)

and a real dog (Rex) in the story. With “Zoom in!” fact sheet, children will build up understanding of the main character.

  • Possible features for comparison include a dog’s physical structure, emotions and so on.

  • Suggest children to do some library research by surfing on net or reading relevant books about robot and dog.

During reading session

  • Invite children to take turns and retell the main ideas of the story.

  • Organize their ideas in a story structure : main idea, characters, setting, important events / plot, problem and solution.

  • Prompt children to reflect on the story using open questions, such as

- “What is your impression of Chip, the Rodog and why?”

- “What part or specific ideas interest you the most?”

- “How do you describe the characters of Chip?”

- “What problem did Chip face?”

- “Was the problem resolved at the end and how?”
