11.        Don’t use the toilet as an ashtray or wastebasket: Every time you flush a cigarette butt, tissue or any other piece of trash, you waster tonnes of water. 
12.        Rinse your razor in a mug: To rinse off your razor, either fill the sink with a few inches of warm water or a mug. This will rinse your razor just as well as running water, with far less waste of water. 
13.        Instead of running water, use a broom to clean your driveways and corridors. You can wash them with water every once in while though. 
14.        Don’t run the hose to wash your car: To clean your car or bike, use a bucket of soapy water. After that’s done, dip a sponge in clean water and wipe off soap. This way you’ll save litres of water.

'Persuade the wives to go to work for long hours and the husbands to work 6-7 days

each week, 10-12 hours a day, so they can afford their empty  lifestyles.' 'Keep them from spending time with their children.' 'As their families fragment, soon, their homes will offer no  escape   from the pressures of work!' 'Over-stimulate their minds so that they cannot hear that still, small voice.' 'Entice them to play the radio or cassette player whenever they drive. ' To keep the TV, VCR, CDs and their PCs going constantly in their home and see to it that every
store and restaurant in the world plays  non-GOD music constantly.'

'Give them distractions to distract them from teaching their children the real
meaning of life.' 'Even in their recreation, let them be excessive.' 'Have them return from their recreation exhausted.'

'Keep them too busy to go out in nature and reflect on God's creation. Send them to amusement parks, sporting events, plays, concerts, and movies instead.' 'Keep them busy, busy, busy!' 'And when they meet for spiritual fellowship, involve them in  gossip and small talk so that they leave with troubled consciences.' 'Crowd their lives with so many good causes

they have no time to seek power from GOD.' 'Soon they will be working in their own strength, sacrificing their health and family for the good of the cause.'

'It will work!' 'It will work!' It was quite a plan!

The demons went eagerly to their assignments causing people everywhere to get busier and more rushed, going here and there. Having little time for their God or their families. Having no time to tell others about the power

of GOD to change  lives.

I guess the question is, has the devil been successful in his schemes?

362] Modern Good Samaritans

As per reports in some dailies, a school bus carrying over 100 children plunged into the Yamuna River from Wazirabad flyover in Delhi on November 18, 1997, killing over 30 children. A Sikh youth who was riding a scooter just behind the ill-fated bus, recall eye-witnesses, without losing a moment, parked his two-wheeler on the foothpath and jumped off the bridge into the river. He remained in the murky Yamuna waters for several hours, first pulling out some of the children from the submerged bus and then helping out the naval divers. By late afternoon, however, there was no sign of this youth. He rode away on his scooter as silently as he had come, not even leaving his name or address behind.

I know of an incident when a person helped another person in distress. The person who was helped asked the name and identity of the person who had helped him. The reply he got was: "Do you know the name of the Good Samaritan in the Gospels?" 

"No", was the reply. "I too belong to that tribe, I'd prefer to remain unknown!". said this 'Good Samaritan'.

What a beautiful lesson for all of us who consider recognition and appreciation an important part of 'charitable' works done. How angry we sometimes feel when we have slogged for someone and our work is not acknowledged during the 'vote of thanks'! It is good for us to reflect, when at prayer, on the main reasons that motivate us to help others. If self is in anyway involved, we can be sure that 'we have received our reward already'.  If self is not involved, our act becomes a powerful weapon that brings down God's graces on people who need to return to the Lord, or who need physical, mental or spiritual healing.

363] As you journey in life ...there may be some steep hills to climb, some times when the road seems treacherous and you aren't sure which turn to take... times when you feel like you are on the brink of falling, and there may be many curves in the road.

As you make your way through the ups and downs, May you know God's presence with you through each tunnel, every steep climb, every curve, in the beautiful mountaintop experiences with Him, and through the slippery storms of life;

May He walk with you down through the valleys and up the mountains, take your hand and guide you through to the light, put a hedge around you to keep you safe, help you to find joy and excitement in the roller coaster ride, and fill you with amazement at the beauty He provides along the way.

Take time to smell the flowers, To admire His handiwork along Life's railway;

And may His love flood over you, fill you, and overflow in praise to Him for all He's done!

367] Mom called me and said she is coming tomorrow. Her train will reach by morning 4:00 o'clock.

Wife: What !!!  She came just 4 months back only, right? Why is she coming now again..? Tomorrow is Sunday. I thought of getting up late but your mom had to come on a Sunday itself and that too morning 4:00 o'clock. Where will she get an auto at that time? I will not make any warm breakfast...she will have to do with biscuits and bread. The kids will also not go to play as she spoils them by getting chocolates, toffees and pastries for them. God decided to encourage people to have fewer children and introduced an award scheme. During the procedure at one point, he concentrated on learning about the situation in India.

The second man felt he was lonely and prayed for a wife. The next day, a ship sank off his side of the island, and the only survivor was a single woman, who then stayed with him. The first man stayed by himself.

The second man prayed for a home, which all seemed to appear as if by magic, while the first man's side remained barren.

Finally, the second man and his wife prayed for a ship, that they might leave the island. A boat appeared the next day, and he and his wife boarded it to leave the island. Then a voice was heard to say, "What of your companion on the other side of the island? Are you going to leave him?"

A king with a defect in one eye & one leg asked all the painters to draw his beautiful portrait but no one was ready to draw, as how to show him beautiful with defects in one eye & a leg. One painter however agreed and drew a classic one. It was such a fantastic picture that every one was surprised, He painted the king aiming for a hunt, targeting with one eye closed & a leg bent for it.

 381] A Professor of chemistry wanted to teach his fifth-grade class a lesson about the evils of liquor, so he produced an experiment that involved a glass of water, a glass of whiskey, and two worms.

"Now, class. Observe the worms closely," said the professor, putting a worm first into the water. The worm in the water writhed about, happy as a worm in water could be. He put the second worm into the whiskey. It writhed painfully and quickly sank to the bottom, dead as a doornail.
"Now, what lesson can we derive from this experiment?" the professor asked.
Young Johny, who sits in the back of the classroom, raised his hand and responded, "Drink whisky and you won't get worms."

Same young Johny grew up and became himself a teacher.

As a professor Johny stood with his class with a selection of items in front of him.
When the lecture began, he took a very large glass, filled it up with large stones, which was approx. 5 cm wide.

When the glass was full, he asked the students: "Is the glass filled up now?"

Everyone agreed that it was.
Professor Johny took some very small stones, and gently into the glass while he shakes it very carefully, causing the smaller stones to go in between the larger stones.
When the glass again was filled up to the edge he asked once more: "Is the glass filled up now?"
Everyone agreed that it was filled up.
When professor Johny placed a bag with sand on the table the student’s laughs, of cause professor Johny could ad sand between the stones, and he filled it to the top.
"Now!" said professor Johny "Please imagine that this glass is your life!"
The large stones are the meaningful things in your life, family, girlfriend's, kids, your health etc. things that are important so no matter if you lose any values they will always be a part of your life.
The small stones are stuff not that important, like your job, house, car and the sand is everything else.
"Please notice! If the glass is full of sand there will be no room for small and large stones. It's the same in life, if you use your time and energy on small stuff there will be no room for important and meaningful stuff.
Always focus on which things there are important for you, and your life will be great and happy.
Play with your kids, see the doctor, take care of your health. Date your partner there will always be time to work, clean up the house and smaller stones!"

1950s - Crowd gathers. Mark wins. Johnny and Mark shake hands and end up best friends. 

2014 - Police called, and they arrest Johnny and Mark & charge them with assault.

Both expelled even though Johnny started it.
Both children go to anger management programmes for 3 months.
School governors hold meeting to implement bullying prevention programmes. 
Scenario :
Robbie won't be still in class, disrupts other students. 

1950s - Robbie sent to the office and given six of the best by the Principal.

Returns to class, sits still and does not disrupt class again. 

2014 - Robbie given huge doses of Ritalin. Becomes a zombie. Tested for ADHD – result deemed to be positive. Robbie's parents get fortnightly disability payments and school gets extra funding from government because Robbie has a disability. 

Scenario :
Billy breaks a window in his neighbour's car and his Dad gives him a whipping with his belt. 

1950s - Billy is more careful next time, grows up normal, goes to college, and becomes a successful businessman. 

2014 - Billy's dad is arrested for child abuse. Billy removed to foster care; joins a gang; ends up in jail. 

Scenario :
Mark gets a headache and takes some Aspirin to school. 

1950s - Mark gets glass of water from Principal to take aspirin with, Passes exams & becomes a solicitor.

2014 - Police called, car searched for drugs and weapons.
Mark expelled from school for drug taking. Ends up as a drop out.
Scenario :
Johnny takes apart leftover fireworks from Guy Fawkes night, puts them in a paint tin & blows up a wasp's nest. 

1950s - Wasps die. 

2014- Police & Anti-Terrorism Squad called. Johnny charged with domestic terrorism, investigate parents, siblings removed from home, computers confiscated.
Johnny's Dad goes on a terror watch list and is never allowed to fly in an aeroplane again. 
Scenario :
Johnny falls over while playing football during morning break and scrapes his knee.
He is found crying by his teacher, Mary.  She hugs him to comfort him. 

1950s - In a short time, Johnny feels better and goes on playing football. No damage done.

2014 - Mary is accused of being a sexual predator and loses her job. She faces 3 years in prison.

Johnny undergoes 5 years of therapy and ends up gay. 

384] A Chinese walks into a bar in America late one night and he saw Steven Spielberg.

As he was a great fan of his movies, he rushes over to him, and asks for his autograph.

Instead, Spielberg gives him a slap and says, "You Chinese people bombed our Pearl Habour, get outta here."

The astonished Chinese man replied, "It was not the Chinese who bombed your Pearl Harbour, it was the Japanese".

"Chinese, Japanese, Taiwanese, you're all the same," replied Spielberg.

In return, the Chinese gives Spielberg a slap and says, "You sank the Titanic, my forefathers were on that ship."

Shocked, Spielberg replies, "It was the iceberg that sank the ship, not me."

The Chinese replies, "Iceberg, Spielberg, Carlsberg, you're all the same."

Imagine two people with equivalent skills, experience, opportunities and aspirations.

It was the coldest winter ever. Many animals died because of the cold. The porcupines, realizing the situation, decided to group together to keep warm.
This way they covered & protected themselves; but the quills of each one wounded their closest companions. After a while, they decided to distance themselves one from the other and they began to die, alone & frozen. So they had to make a choice: either accept the quills of their companions or disappear from the Earth.

Wisely, they decided to go back to being together. They learned to live with the little wounds caused by the close relationship with their companions in order to receive the heat that came from the others. This way they were able to survive.

The best relationship is not the one that brings together perfect people, But when each individual learns to live with the imperfections of others & can admire the other person's good qualities.

The moral of the story is: Just learn to live with the pricks in your life!

387] This is a great and faith building story.

A certain king needed a faithful servant and had to choose between two candidates for the office. He took both at fixed wages and told them to fill a basket with water from a nearby well, saying that he would come in the evening to inspect their work.

After dumping one or two buckets of water into the basket, one of the men said, "What is the good of doing this useless work? As soon as we pour the water in, it runs out the sides."

The other answered, "But we have our wages, haven't we? The use is the master's business, not ours. He is a wise King, and must have his own purpose that we do not understand."

"I'm not going to do such fool's work," replied the complainer. Throwing down his bucket, he went away.

The other man continued until he had drained the well. Looking down into it, he saw something shining at the bottom - it was a diamond ring. "Now I see the use of pouring water into the basket!" he exclaimed. "If the bucket had brought up the ring before the well was dry, it would have been filtered out in the basket. The King was looking for his diamond. Our work was not useless."

The King found his most faithful servant!

The point is, in our lives there are undesirable events that happened or will happen and only God knows why.

Regardless, we just need to do what we need to do and remain faithful.

388] This story is about a beautiful, expensively dressed lady who complained to her psychiatrist that she felt that her whole life was empty, it had no meaning. So, the lady went to visit a counselor to seek out happiness. The counselor called over the old lady who cleaned the office floors. The counselor then said to the rich lady "I'm going to ask Mary here to tell u how she found happiness. All I want u to do is listen to her."

So the old lady put down her broom and sat on a chair and told her story:

"Well, my husband died of malaria and three months later my only son was killed by a car. I had nobody. I had nothing left. I couldn't sleep, I couldn't eat, I never smiled at anyone, I even thought of taking my own life. Then one evening a little kitten followed me home from work. Somehow I felt sorry for that kitten. It was cold outside, so I decided to let the kitten in. I got some milk, and the kitten licked the plate clean. Then it purred and rubbed against my leg and, for the first time in months, I smiled.

Then I stopped to think, if helping a little kitten could make me smile, may be doing something for people could make me happy.

So, the next day I baked some biscuits and took them to a neighbor who was sick in bed.

Every day I tried to do something nice for someone. It made me so happy to see them happy.

Today, I don't know of anybody who sleeps and eats better than I do.

I've found happiness, by giving it to others."

When she heard this, the rich lady cried. She had everything that money could buy, but she had lost the things which money cannot buy.

"The beauty of life does not depend on how happy you are; but on how happy others can be because of you..."

Happiness is not a destination, it's a journey.

Happiness is not tomorrow, it is now.

Happiness is not dependency, it is a decision. 

Happiness is what you are, not what you have..

A pond is a small body of water. It has limited resources and there is only so much room. Of course, there are times when there is extra water from the rains that fall, but there are also periods of drought that puts extra pressure on all who live in the pond.

By contrast, an ocean is immense. It has seemingly unlimited resources and there is an abundance of space. It can be unpredictable and dangerous, but whatever the conditions, there is always enough to go around and more left over.

Which world do you live in?
The one that looks safe, but has very limited resources? Where after a dry spell you wonder how much longer you can survive? Where competition is fierce and new inhabitants are treated with fear and suspicion?
Or the world that has unlimited resources? Where there is enough for anyone who is willing to work hard enough and who has the perspective required to notice the opportunities that are all around? Where there is no need to fear competition or those who are different from you because there is ample room for us all?
We all live in a pond or in the ocean, a place of scarcity or of abundance. The difference is all in our perspective. Which one do you live in?

391] A woman and a man are involved in a car accident. It's a bad one, caused by the woman's reckless driving. Both of their cars are demolished but amazingly neither of them are hurt. After they crawl out of their cars, the woman says;

"So, you're a man. That's interesting. I'm a woman. Wow, just look at our cars! There's nothing left, but fortunately we are unhurt. This must be a sign from God that we should meet and be friends and live together in peace for the rest of our days."

The man replied," I agree with you completely. This must be a sign from God!

The woman continued, "And look at this, here's another miracle. My car is completely damaged, but this bottle of wine didn't break. Surely God wants us to drink this wine and celebrate our good fortune." Then she hands the bottle to the man. The man nods his head in agreement, opens it, drinks half the bottle and then hands it back to the woman. The woman takes the bottle, immediately puts the cap back on, and hands it back to the man. The man asks, "Aren't you having any?" She replies, "Nah. I think I'll just wait for the police to come and collect their evidence." Adam ate the apple again !

393] Husband: last night I was sitting in the living room, talking 2 my wife about life.. In-between, we talked about the idea of living or dying. I told her: 'Never let me live in a vegetative state, totally dependent on machines and liquids from a bottle. If you see me in that state I want you to disconnect all the connections that are keeping me alive, I'd much rather die.'

My wife got up from the sofa with this real look of admiration towards me & proceeded to disconnect the Cable tv, & DVD, then the Computer, the Cell Phone, the iPod, and the Xbox, and then went to the bar and threw away all my whisky, rum, Gin, Vodka & the Beer from the fridge... I ALMOST DIED!!

Some years ago "The King's Business" told of a Christian fisherman who lay in his boat one night when he heard a loud splash not far away. Knowing that the owner of another craft nearby was a heavy drinker, he hurriedly jumped into the cold water and with a great effort succeeded in pulling the half-drowned man out of the bay.

He carried him to his berth and applied first aid until the alcoholic regained consciousness. Having done everything to make him comfortable, he swam back to his own boat.

The next morning he returned to inquire how he felt. "That's none of your business," said the man defensively.The fisherman reminded him that he had risked his life to save him; but instead of showing gratitude, the man only cursed him. As the Christian rowed away, tears filled his eyes. Looking up to Heaven, he said, "When I think of how men have treated You, dear Lord, I'm filled with sorrow. Now I can begin to understand how YOU must feel." Our message for you today is...develop the habit of thanking God each morning and throughout the day.

Nixivan had gathered his friend for supper and was brewing a juicy piece of meat. Suddenly, he noticed they were out of salt.

Nixivan called his son: “Go to the village and buy salt. But pay the fair price for it; neither pricier nor cheaper.”

His son was surprised: “I understand I shouldn’t pay more, father. But if we can bargain a little, why not save some money?”

“In a large city, this is advisable” he said. ” However, in a small city as ours, the entire village will notice it.”

His guest overheard their conversation and wanted to know why one shouldn’t buy salt for less.

Nixivan answered: “Those who sell underpriced salt, do it in a desperate need for money. Those who take advantage of the situation, show disrespect for the sweat and battle of a man that worked to produce something.”

“But that is too little to destroy a village.”

“In the beginning of the world, injustice was scant as well. But everyone that came afterwards added something, thinking it was not important, and see where we got today.”


The Argentinean golfer Robert de Vincenzo went to the parking lot to get his car after having won an important tournament. At that moment, a woman approached him. After congratulating him for his victory, she told him her son was at the edge of death and that she had no money to pay the hospital bills. De Vincenzo immediately gave her part of the money he had won that afternoon.

A week later, at a lunch at the Professional Golf Association, he told this story to a couple of friends. One of them asked him if the woman was blond with a small scar under her left eye. De Vincenzo agreed.

“You were cheated,” his friend said. “This woman is a swindler and is always telling the same story to all foreign golfers that show up here.”

“So there is no child at the edge of death?”


“Well, this was the best news I got this week!” said the golf player.

Ram worked at a vegetable distribution factory. One day, when he finished with his work schedule, he went into the vegetable cold room to inspect something, but in a moment of bad luck, the door closed and he was locked inside with no help in sight.

Although he screamed and knocked with all his might, his cries went unheard as no one could hear him. Most of the workers had already gone, and outside the cold room it's impossible to hear what was going on inside.

Five hours later, whilst Ram was on the verge of death, the security guard of the factory, eventually opened the door and saved Ram's life. Ram then asked the security guard how he got to open the door, as it wasn't part of his work routine, and he explained thus:

"I've been working in this factory for 35 years, hundreds of workers go in and out every day, but you're one of the few who greets me in the morning and says goodbye to me every night when leaving after working hours. Many treat me as if I am invisible. Today, like every other day, you greeted me in your simple manner 'Hello' at the entrance when resuming for work. But curiously, after working hours today, I observed I've not heard your Bye! see you tomorrow'. Hence I decided to check around the factory. I look forward to your 'Hi' and 'Bye' every day. To you, I am someone. By not hearing your farewell, I knew something had happened. Then I sought and found you!

Be humble, love and respect those around you. Someone seemingly so insignificant and irrelevant today could be the only help you can get tomorrow

Can you be too nice? I heard of a woman who is a hard core believer in the adage “it's nice to be important, but it's important to be nice.” She likes to tell about when she first started to referee children's basketball games. Her grown son stopped by to watch her officiate one of her first practice games. Afterward he suggested that she be more forceful. “You know, Mom,” he said, “you don't have to say 'I'm sorry, dear, but you stepped out of bounds.'”

I think that U.S. industrialist Charles M. Schwab may have gotten it right. At age 72, Schwab was sued for a large sum of money. Many high-profile personalities would have settled out of court, but Schwab went through with it and eventually won the suit.

Before he left the witness stand, he asked permission of the court to make a statement of a personal nature. This is what he said:

“I am an old man, and I want to say that ninety percent of my troubles have been due to my being good to other people. If you younger folk want to avoid trouble, be hard-boiled and say no to everybody. You will then walk through life unmolested, but…” and here a broad smile lit up his face, “you will have to do without friends, and you won’t have much fun.”

Maybe that’s why author Henry James said, “Three things in human life are important: The first is to be kind. The second is to be kind. And the third is to be kind.” 

What if today you gave yourself permission to be outrageously kind? What if you extended as much good will and kindness as you can possibly muster to every person you meet? And what if you did it with no thought of reward? Be sure of one thing: it will be a day you will never regret.

Joseph Henry was an American scientist who served as the first Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution. He used to tell a rather strange story about his childhood.

His grandmother, who raised him, once paid a cobbler to make him a pair of shoes. The man measured his feet and told Joseph that he could choose between two styles: a rounded toe or a square toe. Little Joseph couldn't decide. It seemed to be such a huge decision; after all, they would become his only pair of shoes for a long time. The cobbler allowed him to take a couple of days to make up his mind.

Day after day, Joseph went into the shop, sometimes three or four times a day! Each time he looked over the cobbler's shoes and tried to decide. The round-toed shoes were more practical, but the square toes looked more fashionable. He continued to procrastinate. He wanted to make up his mind, but he just couldn't decide!

Finally, one day he went into the shop and the cobbler handed him a parcel wrapped in brown paper. His new shoes! He raced home. He tore off the wrapping and found a beautiful pair of leather shoes - one with a rounded toe and the other with a square toe.

We can learn a lesson here...a lesson about decisions: if I don't make decisions myself, others will probably make them for me.

And if I choose poorly from time to time, that's okay, too. At least I won't have to wear shoes that don't match. Besides, I'll probably do better the next time.

Herman Melville's classic, Moby Dick, portrays the whaling industry of his time. In today's world, his book may likely upset readers who share more enlightened attitudes about the use and abuse of animals.

But a scene in the story can teach us even today something about the power of solitude and focus in daily life.

Melville gives us a turbulent scene in which a whaleboat scuds across a frothing ocean in pursuit of the great white whale. The sailors are laboring to keep the vessel on course in a raging sea, every muscle taut. They labor furiously as they concentrate on the task at hand. In Captain Ahab's boat, however, there is one man who does nothing. He doesn't hold an oar; he doesn't perspire; he doesn't shout. He is languid - utterly relaxed, quiet and poised. This man is the harpooner, and his job is to patiently wait for the moment. Then Melville gives us this sentence: "To insure the greatest efficiency in the dart, the harpooners of this world must start to their feet out of idleness, and not out of toil."

What a marvelous picture for effective living! Those who would live each day to the fullest must prepare for them from a state of idleness rather than toil. For many people this means a daily period of quiet and meditation to focus, plan or pray.

Self help expert Brian Tracy calls it an indispensable daily time of planning and preparation. He suggests that we devote a full hour to alone time every morning. That is when we set our daily priorities so that we, and not events, are in charge of our lives.

"I don't have time for that!" some people complain. "My life is simply too busy to add one more thing to it."

But most people find that a regular period of solitude to chart the day's course, still the mind, listen and prepare actually creates more time than it takes. For we are most effective when we start to our feet out of idleness and not out of toil.

Something magical once really happened in Cinderella's Castle in Florida's Disney World. Children and parents were crowded into a room waiting for Cinderella's appearance. She made a dramatic entrance and the children clamored around her.

Whoever hired the young woman to play the role of Cinderella found a remarkable match. She was perfect. Flawless skin; beautiful face; bright eyes and smile; and, she was costumed exquisitely. She looked as if the cartoon character had come to life.

The children wanted to touch her and have her wave her wand over their heads. She smiled down at them and the room was electric with excitement.

Electric for everyone except two boys, apparently brothers, who stood next to a far wall, away from the other children. The older boy held the hand of the younger, much smaller boy, whose body and face were disfigured.

The look in the young boy's eyes was that of yearning. How he wanted to be with Cinderella. How he wanted to be a part of the other children. But he held back, probably out of fear. He had likely been hurt too many times before by children who didn't understand.

But unexpectedly, Cinderella turned and saw the boys. And she must have noticed the longing in the little one's face, for she slowly made her way through the throng, inching toward the far wall.

Then something magical happened. Cinderella did the most remarkable thing -- something I'm sure she never learned in Cinderella Training Class. She bent down and kissed the little boy's face. He smiled a big and beautiful smile. Cinderella kissed him!

Could anything be so wonderful? Cinderella kissed him. Out of all of the children in that room, Cinderella kissed him. No matter what happens to him, he'll always have that -- Cinderella kissed him.

And when he looks into the mirror he will always see the face that Cinderella kissed looking back. Who knows... for months, for years, maybe forever stings and barbs of life will hurt a little less. And he will stand a bit taller and feel a little more special. He'll never forget that... something magical happened... the day Cinderella kissed him.
