6: BABY PASTIMES OF KRSNA

and


VISION OF THE UNIVERSAL FORM
A. Begin reading on page 56, first paragraph (After this incident...) until the end of the chapter.
Questions
1. Follow instructions A and answer these 10 questions.
2. Follow the instructions for B and choose one of the following topics: Krsna's effulgence, laughing, benedictions, universe.
3. Follow the directions for C with one of the following topics: Universal form, Krsna stealing butter, Krsna pinching babies and babies crying.
***Follow instruction D, and answer questions 4 and 5.

4. As small babies, Krsna and Balarama were naughty. They stole butter and yogurt, let the calves loose, urinated on clean floors, and may other activities. Yet They are gloridied by great devotees for doing that. Write a paragraph explaining why we can't follow Them and perform such activities. Explain clearly.


5. When Mother Yasoda looked in Krsna's mouth and saw the universal form, she offered her obeisances to the illusiory energy of the Lord. Read the paragraph beginning with, "When the Supreme Personality of Godhead..." on page 61, and continuing to page 62. Then, answer the following question: Why is thinking that you are your body, or a member of a particular family an illusion? Read BG 5:20 and the purport for help.
6. Follow instruction E and answer the following question. Lord Brahma benedicted Dhara and Drona that their dealings with Krsna would be so powerful that simply by hearing of Krsna's childhood pastimes anyone could very easily cross over the nescience of birth and death. Tell which childhood pastime of Krsna is your favorite and why.

7: MOTHER YASODA BINDING LORD KRSNA


A. Read the whole chapter (pages 64-66).
Questions

1. Follow direction A and answer these questions.

2. Follow the instructions or B and choose one of the following topics: anger, Yasoda, stealing, monkeys.
3. Follow the directions for C. Write a descriptive paragraph on one of the following topics: Mother Yasoda chasing Krsna (SB 10:1, plate 9), a milk pot boiling over, a rope.
***Follow instruction D. Answer two out of questions 4, 5, and 6.

4. When Mother Yasoda was trying to bind Krsna she found the rope two inches too short. Even after she added more, the rope was still two inches too short. How could this have happened?


5. Mother Yasoda was finally able to bind Krsna. But, how can one tie up God? Re-read the first paragraph on page 66 to answer the question.
6. Srila Prabhupada writes (p. 66), "The Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is known as the son of Yasoda and Nanda Maharaja, is never so completely known to the yogis and speculators, but He is easily available to His devotees." What type of activities must one perform before he can know Krsna. Read BG 18:55 for help.
7. Follow instruction E and and answer this question. Krsna, the Supreme Lord, angrily broke the butter pot when Mother Yasoda left Him to stop the over-boiling milk pot. Did you ever break something in anger? What was the outcome?

8: DELIVERANCE OF NALAKUVERA AND MANIGRIVA


A. Begin reading from beginning of the story until the end of the 2nd paragraph on page 67 (...by cursing them.)
B. Continue reading on page 70, third paragraph (Sage Narada therefore...) until page 71 end of the first paragraph (...following words.)

C. The two demigods then offered beautiful prayers to Lord Krsna and begged to be always engaged in His service. The Lord answered them very sweetly telling them that this was their last birth in the material after which they would go back to Godhead. The demigods then cirumambulated the Lord and returned to their father's abode while Krsna remained tied to the grinding mortar.

5. Srila Prabhupada states (pg. 69) that this body is a product of the material energy. Who does the material energy belong to? How should the material energy, including this body, be used?
6. Srila Prabhupada states (pg. 69) that poverty is beneficial because a saintly person can easily enter a poor man's house and thus purify him. What does a saintly person do when he enters a poor man's house? Read BG 13:26 and SB 4:22:10 & 11 and their purports for help.
7. Follow instruction E and and answer the following question. Narada Muni cursed Nalakuvera and Manigriva, and later they realized that it was actually the best blessing. Were you ever punished and later realized that that punishment was for your good? Write a paragraph describing the incident.

9: MORE CHILDHOOD PASTIMES

and

KILLING THE DEMONS VATSASURA AND BAKASURA

A. Begin reading on page 74, first paragraph beginning, "Sometimes Mother Yasoda..." until the end of the chapter.

Questions

1. Follow instruction A and answer the following questions.
2. Follow the directions for B using one of the following topics: demigods, fruit vendor, playing.
3. Follow the directions given in C using one of the following topics: Bakasura (SB 10:2-plate 14), an oxcart, the Yamuna River, the cowherd boys playing bullfighting covered in blankets.

4. Krsna, the Supreme Lord, lifted Mother Yasoda's wooden sitting plank, and served Nanda Maharaja by bringing his slippers used for worship. Krsna also acted as Arjuna's servant and drove his chariot between the two armies at Kuruksetra upon Arjuna's order. Read the first paragraph on page 74 again, and BG 1:21-22 and its purport. Then answer this question: why does the Supreme Lord who does not have to serve anyone, serve His devotees.


5.The fruit vendor gave the Lord some fruit and the Lord turned the fruit in the vendor's cart into jewels. Re-read this pastime on page 74 and read BG 4:11 and its purport. Then answer this question--what is the best thing to desire from Krsna?
6. Nanda Maharaja, all the cowherd men, and their families left Gokula to live in Vrindavana. They did this to obtain peace. Of course, these activities by the residents of Vrindavan are all pastimes directed by Krsna. However, is it possible for an ordinary man to obtain peace simply by moving from one place to another? Read BG 5:29 and the purport and answer this question.

7. One day, while drinking the water of the Yamuna, the cowherd boys saw a huge duck-like animal. When they saw this unusual creature, they became fearful. They took shelter of Krsna to mitigate that fear. Following instruction E, describe one incident when you became afraid and tell what you did to overcome your fear.

10: KILLING OF THE AGHASURA DEMON
A. Begin reading on page 81, top of third paragraph (When Lord Krsna...) until page 84, end of third paragraph (...all the cowherd boys.)
Questions
1. Follow the directions for A and answer these questions:
2. Follow the instructions for B, choosing one of the following topics: Maharaja Pariksit, pious cowherd boys, yogic siddhis, true safety.
3. Follow the instructions for C using one of the following topics: Krsna and His calf, dancing cowherd boys, or the serpent Aghasura. You may look at the wonderful picture in Srimad-Bhagavatam, 10:2-plate 15, for help.

4. The cowherd boys of Vrindavana were greater than the greatest yogis. Why is this true. Re-read page 81 beginning with, "As stated personally..." and read BG 6:47 and its purport.


5. The material world is a very dangerous place. Padam padam yat vipadam na tesam. There is danger at every step. Yet, the cowherd boys were fearless and even walked into the gaping jaws of the Aghasura demon. Why weren't the cowherd boys afraid? Were they simply foolish?
6. When Krsna entered Aghasura's mouth, all Aghasura's friends, especially King Kamsa, who were accustomed to eating flesh and blood, began expressing their joy. Demons are fearless in their envy of God, but what is the result of their demonic activities and fearlessness? Is it simply foolishness? You may read BG 16:16 for help.

7. Follow instruction E and and answer this question: Near the end of the story of the killing of Aghasura, it is said, "Great sages...and devotees constantly keep the form of the Lord within the heart or...the temples; in that way they become liberated from all material contamination and at the end of the body, enter into the kingdom of God. This perfection is possible simply by keeping the form of the Lord within the mind." In other words, by always remembering Krsna and chanting the Hare Krsna maha-mantra, we become purified and will go bak home, back to Godhead. Although we know the importance of always being Krsna conscious, it is sometimes difficult for us to remain Krsna conscious. Write a paragraph explaining some practical suggestions to help us become inspired to always remain Krsna conscious, attentively chanting Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare / Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare.
