A STORYBOOK CHRISTMAS

(Lyrics)

#1: ONCE UPON A CHRISTMASTIME

(1st grade Elves)

Once upon a Christmas time, each year the story’s told

Someone brings happiness to children, young and old.

In his far-off frozen home, working the whole year through,

Building toys for girls and boys, he makes their dreams come true.

Johnny wants a pair of skates, Suzy wants a sled.

Tony wants a bicycle painted shiny red.

Bring to me a story book with magic tales of old,

With princesses and castles fair and treasure chests of gold.

Jolly Old St. Nicholas lean your ear this way.

Don’t you tell a single soul what I’m going to say.

Christmas Eve is coming soon, now you dear old man.

Whisper what you’ll bring to me, tell me if you can.

(While 1st grade elves & part of the chorus are singing “Jolly Old St. Nic”—other 2nd grades will sing the following:

Once upon a Christmas time, each year the story’s told,

Someone brings happiness to children young and old.

In his far-off frozen home, working the whole year through,

Building toys for girls and boys, he makes their dreams come true.

On and on the story goes as true as true can be,

Each year it comes again beneath the Christmas tree.

Within the heart of ev’ry child, a tale that’s as old as time,

For happy ever aftering is once upon a Christmas,

Once upon a Christmas, a storybook Christmas,

Christmas time.

#3: BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD

(1st Grade Boys--Books)

We gotta go back to the drawing board.

We’ll take it right from the start.

Chapter one, the story’s begun.
Felix:

A prince, a castle, a hand full of beans,

A ginger bread house, you know what that means!
We gotta go back to the drawing board.

We know how the story should go.

Chapter two, they’re all in a fix.
Georgeanne:

An apple that’s poison, a mirror that talks,

A wolf that likes to go out for walks!
We gotta go back to the drawing board.

We know that story by heart.

Chapter three, chapter four, there’s bound to be more!

It’s back to the drawing board.

Jack be nimble, Jack be quick.

Jack jumped over the candle stick.

Little Red Riding Hood, you’d better be wise.

That ain’t your granny, it’s the wolf in disguise,

Big ears, big teeth, big eyes!
We gotta go back to the drawing board.

We know that story by heart.

If we take it from the top, we’ll know just when to stop.

And when we’re in the middles, we’ll say “Hey Diddle, Diddle!”

And by the last chapter, it’s happily ever after.

It’s back to the drawing, back to the drawing,

Back to the drawing------board.
We gotta go back!

#4: CHRISTMAS WISHES

(Mrs. Claus &1st Grade Girls—Stars)
Mrs. Claus:

Make a wish on the ev’ning star.

Wishes are dreams that you hope will come true.

Dreams and wishes will carry you far,

Where ever your star may guide you.

All:

Christmas wishes, Christmas dreams,

Once ev’ry year you may see that you’ve found them.

Ever more precious will each new one seem,

As Christmas beauty surrounds them.

Castles and kingdoms, silver and gold,

Dragons and heroes to slay them.

Magical journeys, myst’ries untold,

Turn a new page and you’re there.

Make a wish on the ev’ning star.

Wishes are dreams.

Listen to your heart.
Mrs. Claus: Just a little nap won’t hurt, will it?

Santa: I think it’ll be all right.

Mrs. Claus:

Wishing makes dreams come true.
Wishing makes dreams, come true!

#5: A BAD RAP

(Wolf & 2nd Grade Boys--Wolves)
Wolf:

Superior ability, a charming personality,

I wonder why they’re giving me
A bad rap! A bad rap!
Wolf:

I choose the finest restaurants.

I’m something of a “bon vivant.”

What is it that they really want?
A bad rap! A bad rap!
Whoa, a bad rap!

Whoa, a bad rap!

Wolf:

Who makes the story really cook,

The hero of the story book

But I don’t get a second look!
A bad rap! A bad rap!

HE HAS STYLE. HE HAS GRACE.

Wolf:

I have such a handsome face.
HE HAS WIT. HE HAS CHARM.
Wolf:

Please my dear, don’t be alarmed.
HE’S RECEIVED TWO DEGREES!
Wolf:

Home Ec and biology.
THE ELITE LOVE TO BE
Wolf:

Seen in my vicinity. Ahooo!
Whoa, a bad rap!

Whoa, a bad rap!

Wolf:

Who makes the story really cook,

The hero of the story book

But I don’t get a second look!

#6: Pig Out

(3 Pigs & 2nd Grade Girls-Miss Piggies)

3 Pigs:

What makes us love our lunches?

We can all “pig out!”

What makes our lunches scrumptious?

The calories there’s no doubt!
While others are skinny, scrawny toothpicks,

We have shape!

Just let ‘em eat sprouts and seeds,

We’ll take our steak

And then a cake!
We love our gooey, sticky

Luscious recipes.

Snacking and dining out takes

All our salaries!

Just feed us from morn ‘til night time.

Every hour, too!

So on to Denny’s—a hot fudge sundae will do!
(dance section)
What makes us love our lunch time?

We can—eat through it!

What makes our larger waistline?

MacDonalds—we’ll admit

There’s nothing like cheese cake, ice cream,

Oooo those pastries too!

We’ll eat ‘em at dinner, snack time

In a stew—enough for two.

We love our gooey, sticky

Luscious—recipes.

Snacking and dining out takes

All our—salaries!

Just feed us from morn ‘til night time.

Every hour too!

So on to Denny’s—On to Denny’s

On to Denny’s, a hot fudge sundae—will do!

WE CAN ALL PIG OUT!

#7: LET’S GET THE STORY STRAIGHT

(Red, Pigs, Wolf & 1st Grade Girls--Little Reds)

Let’s get the story straight.

Let’s hear it from the top.

We don’t care if the plot is a flop.

Let’s get the story straight.

We don’t have all night.

Get it fast, get it right.

Let’s get the story straight!
Red:

I was walkin’ through the wood in my little riding hood

When a certain wolf got in my way.

Well now, watch out, boys, gonna make some noise!

To you I say: Make my day!
We don’t have all night.

Get it fast, get it right.

Let’s get the story straight!
Wolf:

I admit that in the past, certain ladies I harassed

Who were walkin’ alone in the woods.

Well now, don’t be aghast, I’ve been really miscast!

It’s not my norm, ‘cause I’m reformed.
We don’t have all night.

Get it fast, get it right.

Let’s get the story straight!

3 Pigs:

Oh, the stocks took a tumble and we lost a bundle,

The condo was really a mess!

We heard huffing sounds, and some puffing sounds,

Then our address was the wilderness.
We don’t have all night.

Get it fast, get it right.

Let’s get the story straight!

(All 3 of the following parts are sung at the same time—each class will be assigned one:)

1st) Reds: I was walkin’ through the wood in my little riding hood,

When a certain wolf got in my way.

Well now watch out boys, gonna make some noise!

To you I say: Make my day!

Let’s get the story straight.

Let’s get the story straight.

2nd) Wolves: I admit that in the past certain ladies I harassed

Who were walkin’ alone in the woods.

Well now don’t be aghast, I’ve been really miscast

It’s not my norm ‘cause I’m reformed.

3rd) Pigs: Well the stocks took a tumble and we lost a bundle.

The condo was really a mess!

All:

We don’t have all night.

Get it fast, get it right.

Let’s get the story straight!

LET’S GET IT STRAIGHT!

#8: THAT’S THE WAY IT IS

(Granny & 2nd Grade Girls--Grannies)
Granny: (in a rap style)

Hang on kids come visit my place

to see what you should eat.

You don’t need sugar,
You should eat sprouts,

Tofu, soy & beets!
All over town, they come to feast

And try my healthy life style.

Just see my energy, my youthful shape

We’re celebratin’ a while!
Now you don’t have to be a whiz

To know THAT’S the way it is!
That’s the way it is, get in shape.

Take a look at me right here today.

You don’t need junk food.

I don’t mean to be rude.

Everybody, hear me say: THAT’S THE WAY IT IS!
Granny:

Now fruits are great, so healthy and sweet

With vitamins abatch.

Leafy veg’tables to fill your plate.

For energy there is no match.

There’s water, milk and juices, too,

Because you need lots to drink.

I serve it all, fine gourmet foods,

All but the kitchen sink!
Now you don’t have to be a whiz

To know THAT’S the way it is!

That’s the way it is, get in shape.

Take a look at me right here today.

You don’t need junk food.

I don’t mean to be rude.

Everybody, hear me say:

That’s the way it is, get in shape.

Take a look at me right here today.

You don’t need junk food.

I don’t mean to be rude.

Everybody hear me say: THAT’S THE WAY IT IS

#9: ALMOST TURKEY DINNER

(Red, Granny, Wolf & 1st Grade Boys--Food)
Red:

An exotic blend of spices,

A feast that’s unsurpassed!

To each of you I say: “Bon appetite!”
Granny:

You’ll savor ev’ry flavor,

Your palette will rejoice,

And the only thing that’s missing is the meat!
THE MEAT?!!
Wolf:

The meat?
Red:

So let’s pull up a table, set out the forks and knives.
Granny:

I promise that you’re in—for a flavorful surprise.
We’re havin’ almost turkey dinner, almost turkey dinner!

Tastes like you never thought it could.

Almost turkey dinner, almost turkey dinner!

I guarantee it’s finger lickin’ good!

You take some tofu and some cabbage and some carrots fricasseed.

Add some almonds and some lentils and a pound of fetta cheese.

We prefer it if you stir it and we ask you, if you please,

First to boil it, then to broil it

WHY, I TELL YOU IT’S A BREEZE!

Almost turkey dinner, almost turkey dinner!

Tastes like you never thought it could.

Almost turkey dinner, almost turkey dinner!

I do believe it’s finger lickin’ good!

Wolf:

While it’s true I’ve never strayed from my carnivory ways,

Yes, I think that I will try some of these eggplant canapés.

Then I’ll have some sweet potatoes with the apple raisin glaze.

Let me follow your example, tell me what else can I sample?
Almost turkey dinner, almost turkey dinner!

Tastes like you never thought it could.

Almost turkey dinner, almost turkey dinner!

I do believe it’s finger lickin’ good!

Almost turkey dinner, almost turkey dinner!

Tastes like you never thought it could.

Almost turkey dinner, almost turkey dinner!

I do believe it’s finger lickin’

Yes, indeed, it’s finger lickin’
Georgeanne:

Here Mr. Wolf, try one of the broccoli-stuffed pita pocket.
Wolf:

Why, thank you, I believe I will. Mmmm…not bad.

Not bad at all. In fast, it’s quite good!
All:

He likes it!

Georgeanne:

I guess you really are reformed!
Wolf:

What? You never heard of “Pita and the Wolf?”
All:

I do believe it’s finger lickin’,

Wolf:

Sorry, Ma, I’m done with chicken!
All:

Yes, indeed it’s finger lickin’ good! Yeehaw!
