Helps families who provide foster care by providing NEW car seats and booster seats to Callaway county foster children, Love bags for children removed from their homes (essential items like pillow, blanket, toothbrushes, etc.), school supplies and backpacks, clothing such as new socks and underwear (and more), Give a Gift program (foster kids make a list of gift and clothing requests and get some items), monthly meetings and trainings the 2nd Tuesday of the month from 6-8:30 at 1313 Cooperative Dr in Fulton (childcare provided), and activities and events like Big Surf waterpark, picnic, pizza party, and bowling party for foster families. Hope Chest provides donations of food to families who attend.

Immunizations by appointment. Most vaccines are provided at no cost through federal programs, including all those required for school entry. Those not covered are provided at minimal cost. There is a $15 administration fee for each immunization visit.

Pregnancy testing (there is a fee for those w/o Medicaid), well women exams and contraceptives for uninsured women and women with Medicaid, prenatal services for those with Medicaid, Show-Me-Healthy-Women (screens medically underserved women for breast and cervical cancer with breast exam, pelvic exam, pap test, education on self-breast examinations. Must be age 35-64, income at or below 200 percent of poverty level, NOT for women with Medicaid, Medicare part B or HMO health coverage).

Includes Christmas gifts for families with children, valentines, Easter baskets, Halloween costumes, school supplies, as funding allows. Also holiday food. The Christmas adoption program (which provides 2 gifts for each child and 1 for each adult in the household plus food) is for Cole county families only and they must show proof of filing taxes the past year. If family is not adopted by a member of the community, they can come to Santa’s Workshop in December and choose two gifts for each child.

JCHE is a group of families who have chosen to home educate their children. JCHE is a Christian group operating on Christian principles. Purpose is to provide support, encouragement, and fellowship to families who home educate in the JC area, provide activities for social and educational development, and offer home school information to prospective families. Membership is open to any family who home educates their children, $30 annual dues. Membership privileges include participation in all JCHE activities, “The Schoolhouse News” monthly newsletter, membership directory, discounted membership rate with HSLDA and some area merchants.

Through funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the City of Jefferson provides a variety of assistance programs for low-income homeowners within the city limits, including: energy efficiency, emergency repairs, code deficiency to help with exterior repairs, and down payment incentive program for first-time homebuyers.

Partners with low income families to improve their living conditions with decent, affordable housing by providing no-interest mortgages of about $400-$450/month. (Families must have a monthly income of at least $1600). Families are required to invest 350-450 hours of “sweat equity” labor in constructing their home and homes of other Habitat partner families. They also participate in required monthly homeownership courses.

Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program, classes on home ownership, down payment assistance, transitional housing for low income, first time home owners. Section 8 is funded through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Participants can find their own housing that meets the program requirements and whose landlord agrees to rent under the program. A housing subsidy is then paid by CMCA directly to the landlord, and the family pays the difference between the subsidy and the actual rent charged by the landlord.
