FREETOWN, SIERRA LEONE and JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA —
The story of Marie Jalloh’s death weeks ago sounds like it was plucked straight from the earliest days of Sierra Leone’s 2014 Ebola outbreak. In early January, family members brought the 22-year-old student to the government hospital in the northern town of Magburaka. She was weak and complained of vomiting and diarrhea. A nurse without protective clothing took a blood sample, and later, Ms. Jalloh was discharged.
Only days later, after her death and traditional burial, did health officials confirm the worst: she had died of Ebola, and in the course of her sickness had put dozens of others at grave risk of the infectious disease.
More than 100 people were quickly quarantined, and on Thursday – exactly a week after the global health community triumphantly declared an end to West Africa’s Ebola outbreak – health officials announced that Jalloh’s aunt, who had cared for and helped bury her niece, had tested positive as well.
The sudden resurgence of Ebola in Sierra Leone has rekindled fears here that, despite promises to the contrary, the public health care system remains vastly under prepared to safely manage new flare-ups of the virus, which public health experts say are likely to continue for at least several months. Shortly after Jalloh’s death was announced last week, a group of young people stormed the hospital where she was treated, demanding the doctors and nurses be held accountable for their negligence.
But the tragedy has also prompted an important question of the global health community. Why, after two years of intense international scrutiny and aid, does Sierra Leone’s health care system still remain seemingly unable to stand on its own to fight Ebola?
The answer, in part, lies in the strategies the world initially employed to drive the deadly virus out and the wind down of international attention that left Sierra Leone to struggle on its own.
“If we were able to stop this epidemic, it was not because we rebuilt the public health systems in West Africa,” wrote Nahid Bhadelia, director of Infection Control at National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratory, in a recent post on NPR’s Goats & Soda blog, “but because massive resources were poured into immediate response and heightened surveillance, with an immense amount of education and policies that echoed wartime precautions, like roadblocks that restricted the movement of entire countries.”
The world steps in
As the Ebola outbreak picked up momentum in mid-2014, international health charities like Doctors Without Borders, the Red Cross, and others were welcomed gratefully into Sierra Leone to supplement a health system hobbled by decades of neglect during the country’s civil war and its aftermath.
Almost overnight, these groups began to construct massive complexes of tarp and tin across the country – vast, temporary treatment facilities designed to safely test and treat the growing ranks of the infected.
“The outbreak of Ebola actually drew the attention of the international community in terms of [the need for] strengthening or building the health sector in this country,” says Yusuf Kabba, president of the Sierra Leone Association of Ebola Survivors. Among the major gains, he says, were ambulances to carry patients, which most hospitals in the country had previously lacked.
Meanwhile, as the epidemic neared its apparent end last year, many of the temporary treatment centers and checkpoints around the country abruptly closed, leaving Sierra Leoneans – among them Ebola survivors facing ongoing health problems including joint paint, vision loss, and depression – once again reliant on the overtaxed public system for care. Mr. Kabba says it quickly became apparent that local hospitals and clinics were still not equipped to handle the burden.
'Something like this could happen again'
Today, Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Health admits the winding down of international attention to the Ebola outbreak has left it struggling to shoulder the responsibility of keeping the outbreak from re-emerging. Sidie Yahya Tunis, director of communications for the ministry, says the response to the latest cases had been a “bit slow.”
At the same time, the ministry has significant resources at its disposal that were nearly unthinkable at the beginning of the epidemic two years ago. Earlier this week, for instance, health officials announced that they had begun, with some difficulty, a vaccination campaign for all those who came into contact with Jalloh before her death. The officials used a a Canadian vaccine, VSV-EBOV, that proved largely successful in trials last year.
Still, the ongoing challenges to Sierra Leone’s health care system is a canary in the coal mine for the global public health community, says Axelle Ronsse, an Ebola emergency response coordinator for Doctors Without Borders.
“People are more sensitized now," she says. "But I’m afraid if we don’t strengthen the health system, something like this could happen again – in West Africa or somewhere else with the same level of facilities."

A new Ebola case has been linked to a recent death from the disease in Sierra Leone, signaling an expanding flare-up after West Africa was declared free of disease transmission by the World Health Organization (WHO), Reuters reported today.
Sierra Leone confirmed an infection in a 38-year-old aunt and caregiver of a 22-year-old woman who died from the disease on Jan 12, 2016, which ended the country's Ebola-free status, according to health ministry spokesman Sidi Yahyah Tunis.
Umaru Fofana, the reporter who filed the story, said on his Twitter account today that the case was confirmed in the city of Magburaka in the Tonkolili district of Sierra Leone's Northern province. He added that the woman will be transferred to 34 Military Hospital in Freetown.
Health officials were bracing for more cases, because the younger woman's illness wasn't detected until after she died, and several people likely had high-risk exposure, given her travel and medical care history. Also, officials said she was buried without safety protocols in place.
WHO: 150 contacts identified
The WHO said in its weekly epidemiologic update today that 2 weeks before the 22-year-old woman died, she traveled from Port Loko, where she was a student, passing through Kambia and Bombali before arriving at her family home in Magburaka. She had vomiting and diarrhea during her travels.
The agency said her case posed a significant risk of further transmission because of her admission to a healthcare facility where workers didn't wear appropriate protective equipment, her close contact with family while sick, and her unsafe burial.
So far 150 contacts, 50 of them high risk, have been identified, and vaccination of contacts and contacts of contacts is under way in coordination with Sierra Leone's health ministry, the WHO said. It said one contact is missing. Fofana said today that 18 high-risk and 32 low-risk contacts are missing.
So far the source of the woman's illness isn't known, but authorities say a small but real threat remains from lingering virus in survivors. The new family cluster in Sierra Leone is the 11th such flare-up in West Africa.

Firm Press Release
Good Earth Egg Company, LLC of Bonne Terre, Missouri has announced a voluntary recall of its shell eggs because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
The Food and Drug Administration has notified Good Earth Egg that a link has been established between eggs produced in our facility to cases of Salmonella illnesses in the state of Missouri.
In light of this investigation, and with an abundance of caution, Good Earth Egg Company has initiated a voluntary recall of all shell eggs. Various sizes of shell eggs are packaged in the following ways: 6-count cartons, 10-count cartons, 12-count cartons, 18-count cartons, 15 dozen cases, and 30 dozen cases. The dates and codes on the cartons and cases will include everything prior to and including date code 006 - Sell By 02/05/2016, under the brand name Good Earth Egg Company, license number D-01124.
The Good Earth Egg Company recalled products were distributed throughout the Midwest, including Missouri and Illinois, at the retail and wholesale level, institutions, and to walk-in customers. Good Earth eggs are sold at Dierbergs, Shop n' Save, Straubs, Midtowne Market and Price Chopper in the metropolitan St. Louis area.
Good Earth Egg Company is working with distributors and retailers to remove these products from wholesale suppliers and retail shelves. Consumers do not need to return the product to the store where it was purchased. Instead, consumers should discard any product and its container. Good Earth Egg Company will work directly with each consumer to manage replacement of its product.
Consumers with questions may contact Good Earth Egg Company, LLC at email@example.com.
Good Earth Egg Company has released the following statement, "We are taking these steps because consumer safety is our top priority. As a third-generation family operated farm, we are solely focused on providing fresh, quality, healthy eggs to local consumers. Although no Good Earth Egg Company eggs have tested positive for Salmonella, we feel strongly that issuing a voluntary recall is the right thing to do. Good Earth Egg Company is working closely with the FDA to determine the root cause of the potential contamination."

Biosecurity – Vector Mosquito
Hawaii baby with deformed head becomes first US case of mosquito-transmitted Zika virus
US health officials have confirmed that a baby born with brain damage in Hawaii tested positive for the mosquito-transmitted Zika virus that has been sweeping Latin America and the Caribbean. Pregnant women are advised to postpone traveling plans.
Zika is believed to cause microcephaly, or a dramatically shrunken head, in newborns, which prevents babies’ brains from developing properly.
There is no vaccine or treatment for the virus as of yet and what makes matters worse is that the symptoms in infected pregnant women are not that obvious: a slight fever, headaches and a rash that last up to a week.

— PAHO/WHO (@pahowho) January 12, 2016
The problem is worsened by the fact that initial ultrasounds of a fetus could be normal and the microcephaly is only detected toward the end of the pregnancy.
“These are newborns who will require special attention their entire lives. It's an emotional stress that just can't be imagined,” Angela Rocha, a pediatric infection expert at Oswaldo Cruz Hospital, told CNN in December.
The first newborn to be born with the virus in the US was tested for Zika after he had been born with microcephaly. It is thought the mother became infected with the virus while in Brazil in May 2015. The diagnosis was confirmed Friday.
So far, six people have tested positive for the virus in Hawaii and although US health officials state that these people are not infectious, there is caution that the situation may change.
“It’s important for us to understand that there are going to be imported cases of Zika to the United States and we won't be surprised if we start to see some local transmission of the virus," the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention spokesperson, Tom Skinner, told Reuters.
Out of abundance of caution pregnant women advised to consider postponing travel to areas w #Zika virus transmission https://t.co/DmwQkXuhSz
— CDC (@CDCgov) January 16, 2016
The CDC strongly advises pregnant women to avoid traveling to Brazil, Colombia, El Salvador, French Guiana, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Martinique, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Suriname, Venezuela and Puerto Rico. The travel alert was issued Saturday.
Near the end of 2015, six Brazilian states had to declare a state of emergency and ask people to postpone having children.
“This is an unprecedented situation, unprecedented in world scientific research,” the Brazilian Health Ministry said on its website, estimating the latest outbreak between 0.5 and 1.5 million cases in the country altogether.
The pathogen, known as Zika virus, was first discovered in Uganda in the 1940s in forest monkeys. The transmitter of the Zika virus, Aedes aegypti mosquito, is also known for spreading such diseases as chikungunya fever, dengue fever and yellow fever.

rx160112_women in Dominican Republic avoid pregnancy as long as the Zika virus is present
Local - 12 January 2016, 7:58 AM Santo Domingo.-
Zika virus a ´major threat´ to Dominican Republic
Calling the Zika virus a major threat Public Health minister Altagracia Guzman on Tuesday urged women to avert pregnancy on the possibility of giving birth to children with neurological and microcephaly deformations.
She said part of the first three months of pregnancy is vital to the formation of the fetus and the disease in that period `poses a high risk.
Guzman agrees with a Brazilian doctor who recommends that women avoid pregnancy as long as the virus is present.
Hundreds of cases of children born with microcephaly (small head), have been reported in Brazil, where their mothers contracted Zika during pregnancy.
"Every woman of childbearing age and sexually active must use mosquito nets because they have the possibility of having a pregnancy if it is not planned", the official said.
Guzman also spoke of the need to use repellents containing methyl benzamine, amino-propionic acid and hydroxyethyl, and which the Pan American Health Organization recommends.

Two pregnant women in Illinois are being monitored carefully
New cases of the Zika virus, which is linked to birth defects, have been confirmed in Florida and Illinois, state officials said.
Two pregnant women in Illinois and three people in Florida were infected by the mosquito-borne virus while traveling outside of the country. Officials said they are monitoring both situations.
While Zika causes mild symptoms in most infected people, the virus can be particularly serious for pregnant women. Zika has been linked to a risk of the child being born with microcephaly, in which the babies have small heads and incomplete brain development. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has urged women traveling to areas where the virus is common, including South America, Latin America and the Caribbean, to take precautions.
The Florida residents who were infected had all traveled to South America in December, with two Miami residents visiting Colombia and another traveling to Venezuela, according the Miami Herald.

Zika Virus Case reported in Texas highlights need to start programs of active surveillance
By Hailey Grant 12 / Jan / 2016
Zika virus has spread from Latin America to Texas, as first case of the mosquito-borne infection in the United States has been confirmed in the state. Health officials and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that Zika virus has been confirmed in a traveler, who returned from El Salvador.
Investigations were carried out by Harris County, Texas, from which the Zika virus infection was confirmed. “There is a perfect storm brewing for Zika virus in the US. I was never worried that Ebola would take off here, but I am worried about Zika. We have 2 species of Aedes mosquitoes that can transmit Zika in our area”, affirmed Peter Hotez, holding many prestigious positions including, MD, dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine.
Hotez, who is also president of the Sabin Vaccine Institute, and Texas Children's Hospital Endowed Chair of Tropical Pediatrics, Houston, said that Zika infection does not have any specific symptoms and they are more like influenza in pregnant women. The infection has been associated with birth defects that become apparent after nine months and by that time, it becomes too late.
The Texas patient has developed symptoms including rash, muscles aches and joint pain while visiting El Salvador in November 2015. He took medical care when symptoms remained after coming back to the US in 2015. From screening and further testing, the person was ‘preliminary positive for Zika virus’.
The first case of Zika infection in Harris County is a wake-up call for authorities concerned that they should start implementing programs of active surveillance without any delay. Among the measures include covering any container having water or empty them and repair leaks or taps on septic tanks.
People who are at increased risk of being exposed to mosquitoes should use one of the CDC-recommended insect repellents registered with the US Environmental Protection Agency like DEET, picaridin, oil of lemon eucalyptus or IR3535.

Yesterday morning (Wednesday 1/20/2016) two scientists at Caltech announced they had evidence of a 9th Planet. Mr. Michael Brown (credited with demoting Pluto to non-planet status) and Mr. Konstantin Batygin claim that via mathematical calculations and computer modeling they believe there to be a planet larger than Neptune "at the edge of our solar system". They state that they believe "someone" will find it with a telescope in the next five years.
This announcement has been given airtime and ink by The Scientific American, National Public Radio, CBS and others. The NASA representative is withholding his judgment.
I have yet to speak to my friend and mentor, Professor James McCanney on the matter, but hope to do so soon.
Following is my initial analysis of the matter.
1.) The Powers That Be (PTB) know that they will soon no longer be able to keep the existence of PX from the public and decided to move forward now to be able to control the public narrative on the matter. This they will largely (95%) be able to do until things (the effects of PX) become so wildly out-of-control that it no longer matters.
2.) This will be another obfuscation to discredit the existence of PX. Then, a few weeks, or months from now, the two Caltech Scientists will publicly admit that their theory has no basis in reality.
Assuming #1 above is the correct message, I fully expect there to be dozens (hundred's?) of Mainstream Media articles, videos, press releases, interviews all pointing to the non-threatening nature of PX to Earth. The message will come from NASA, scientists, astrophysics professors, religious leaders, politicians, world leaders, prominent business leaders, even Hollywood Stars. The message from all these sources will be consistent in claiming the non -threatening nature of PX and berating, marginalizing, demonizing, anyone who says otherwise. As I state above, they will be 95% successful in their efforts.
As most of you know, I've been working on this matter for many years. I published my paper " No Need For Panic" (now a free download at my web site) in 2005. The first disk of my presentation "Global Warming, What The Government Isn't Telling You" was released in 2008.
Anyone delving into this matter will find a number of people who have web sites, have written books and made videos making all kinds of claims these past 12+ years about Planet X, Nibiru, Wormwood, The Destroyer. Some very factual, some pure fantasy.
My work stands on it's own two feet. What's unique about my work, what separates it from everyone else, is my making use of two skills I developed to a high degree as a Homicide Detective:
1.) Locating witnesses
2.) Interviewing witnesses
While I have debriefed several people with insider knowledge over the years prior to the Summer of 2005, it was a happenstance lunch with a friend who is a Navy veteran that Summer that opened the door to everything else. During that lunch, my friend told me about a classified U.S. Navy briefing he attended in 1985.
At this briefing they were told "Gentlemen, during your lifetimes, all oceans will come out of their basins, flooding all coastal areas world-wide. We expect all sea levels to rise 300'+ above current levels. When it comes time to retire, you might want to consider retiring to the Arkansas/Missouri Ozarks as one of the two safe-havens, the other being Western Montana". That lunch was what led to many other witnesses being located and interviewed.
I teach concealed carry training for Missouri residents to get their MO Concealed Carry License. In this capacity I always ask my students if any are veterans. This is where I have met and continue to meet veterans who have knowledge of this matter. One of these veterans, Mr. Tim Spencer, agreed to go public with me about "the map". That map being the one shown at these classified briefings. This map in on my DVD mentioned above. This map shows North America with new coastlines. Pretty much the areas where 75% of Americans live will be under water.
I know many of you already have my DVD "Global Warming, What The Government Isn't Telling You". If you would like a review copy, let me know, I'll ship it to you.
If you would like to have me on your show, call me & we'll schedule it.
One film I recommend people watch is "The Day After Tomorrow" starring Dennis Quaid. There is a very poignant scene where Professor Terry Rapson (Ian Holm) is on an island off the coast of Scotland. The Gulf Stream has stopped (the main premise of the film, which, by the way happened in 2010, the Gulf Stream stopped) and Holms knows he and his two research assistants will soon freeze to death. He is on the telephone with Professor Jack Hall (Dennis Quaid) and tells Hall " Save the ones that you can".
That's my message and I will do what I can to "save the ones that I can".

Planet X Nibiru the History the Science and Ancient Texts
Sunday, January 10, 2016 17:22
Planet X, the events in the Bible that describe it’s destruction and appearance, and the ancient texts that support its arrival and impact. All about Nibiru / Planet X, its history, the science behind it, the ancient writings, the apocrypha and the Holy Bible. We will also discuss what we believe may happen to the earth in the near future because of this incommong menace.
Planet X Threat
The greatest threat we face is not Planet X itself, although it will pelt the Earth with horrific meteorite storms and impact events. Rather, it will be the catastrophic interactions between it and our Sun.
Suffice it to say we are not threatened by one single object or thing in 2016. Nor will we experience a single day of cataclysm, in a Biblical sense. What can we expect? A slow motion train wreck for the world, as we know it, and on a global scale.
As it has in the past, the Planet X flyby will trigger a convergence of multiple manmade and natural catastrophic events, which will occur over a period of years. Once the nightmare is over, the survivors will emerge to create humanity’s next golden Renaissance.
In the meantime, when will this cosmic train wreck begin? It already has.
The Planet X Panic
The current global warming debate has achieved one notable result. Paralysis. As the old saying goes, seeing is one thing and believing is another. When our attention is being deflected away from what really matters, what are we to believe? Or do we even care?
This seems to be more the case for global warming, because for as long as conjecture can be used to deflect attention away from this serious (and expensive) threat, that is exactly what most people will do. Be deflected — and happily so.
The reason why this global warming deflection works as well as it does, can be attributed to an inconvenient omission. The closing distance between Planet X and our Sun is the primary causality for global warming on Earth. The same holds true for Mars and Pluto, which are also evidencing clear signs of global warming. Therefore, many of the global warming issues are indeed cyclic because Planet X flybys are cyclical in nature.
Man-made pollution is very real, but it only aggravates the core problem. Nonetheless, it remains a grave concern. This is because we’re pushing the resiliency of our biosphere ever closer, towards the tipping point of catastrophic failure.
All the data is there, but what’s missing? The context of an inconvenient omission.
Without the proper context, Earth change concerns are unlikely to serve as mainstream proof for Planet X. Furthermore, corporate news media outlets will equivocate about the presence of this threat for as long as possible. Their aim will be to prevent a public panic. After all, that would stop most people from showing up for work and paying taxes.
Therefore, the debate will ramble on until something greater throttles it. That will be Planet X as it approaches the core of our solar system. A large ball of dust and debris will precede it, much like a royal procession. In time, it will encroach upon the space surrounding Earth, and this is when the mainstream will really start to ‘get it.’
At first, we’ll begin to see communication outages, as Planet X takes the joy out of channel surfing. Cable television networks will be especially vulnerable, because they depend upon communication satellites in geosynchronous orbit.
Distance is a difference between these cable television satellites and the Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites used by the navigation systems used in military vehicles, airliners and automobiles.
A geosynchronous orbit (GEO) allows a satellite to match the Earth’s own 24-hour day. Consequently, it is always pointed at the same spot on Earth. This is called a footprint, and what makes it work is the fact that the satellite is parked in space at a distance of 22,369 miles (36,000 km) from the Earth.
On the other hand, a satellite in a low Earth orbit (LEO) is going to be somewhere between 124 to 1,243 miles (193 to 2,000 km) above the surface of the Earth. To help put this in perspective, the LEO of theInternational Space Station (ISS) is 207 miles (333.3 km) above the Earth.
So then, how does this play out? As dust and debris from Planet X begins to impact the GEO satellites used by the cable television networks.
This is when we’ll start to see entire blocks of channels going off the air as satellite transponders become damaged and fail.
Initially, these interruptions will be manageable, as these GEO satellites typically handle scores of channels. Switching affected broadcasts to other transponders on the satellite will quickly restore programming. However, over time, increasing impact damage will leave increasing numbers of GEO communication satellites impaired or useless.
What viewers will see as we approach 2016 will be more interruptions and progressively fewer channels. During this time, the cable television networks will scramble to switch over to underground and sub-sea fiber optic communication networks. However, they’ll have to compete for fewer and fewer resources, so there will be no easy panacea there.
Eventually, we’ll return to the 1970’s era of cable television with somewhere between 20 to 40 channels of programming. Even with all this, many will continue to let Planet X debunkers deflect their concerns.
When will the mainstream finally ring the alarm bell? Odds are, when the ball of dust and debris surrounding Planet X finally reaches low Earth orbit. This is when NASA will likely be forced to abort a manned LEO mission.
Worse yet, astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) could suddenly be forced to abandon ship and return to Earth in an emergency evacuation craft. If ground controllers cannot maintain the station’s orbit, the ISS will fall back to Earth in an uncontrolled, fiery descent. This is when the Planet X bells will ring for sure.
To illustrate some of the amazing knowledge the Sumerians possessed 6,000 years ago, I will use a reference to something that to this day is still being taught by our education system. When the Earth was much older, we can determine the land mass was once a clumped together mass at one point in time.
But due to the process known as “Continental Drift” or “Plate tectonics”, the land clump was slowly pulled apart to where the current land masses are today.
We can see clear proof that the continents were all once connected by simply looking at a map of the Earth and seeing how the pieces fit. That would only mean that at one time, Earth was basically half a planet.
Where did the other half go? Why is Earth only half a planet? The diagrams shown here are descriptions from the Sumerians explaining how our Earth came to be…
They state that the satellites of Planet X (Nibiru) as they called it, collided with our primitive Earth in the past.
Creating the asteroid belt and forever becoming another member of our solar system in a comet like 3,600 year orbit around the sun.
Planet X being pulled into our solar system by the outer planets gravitational pull.
Planet X’s orbit around our sun, as told to us by the Sumerians in their 7 tablets of creation.
In February 1971, the United States launched Pioneer 10. Pioneer 10 scientists attached to it an engraved aluminum plaque. It attempts to tell whoever might find the plaque that Mankind is male and female, etc., and that (Pioneer 10) is from the 3rd planet of this Sun. Our astronomy is geared to the notion that Earth is the 3rd planet, which indeed it is if one begins the count from the center of our system, the Sun.
But to someone nearing our solar system from the outside, the 1st planet to be encountered would be Pluto, the 2nd Neptune, the 3rd Uranus, the 4th Saturn, the 5th Jupiter, the 6th Mars .. and the Earth would be 7th.
The (12th) Planet’s periodic appearance and disappearance from Earth’s view confirms the assumption of its permanence in solar orbit. In this it acts like many comets. If so, why are our astronomers not aware of the existence of this planet?
The fact is that even an orbit half as long as the lower figure for (the comet) Kohoutek, (every 7,500 years), would take the 12th Planet about 6 times farther away from us than Pluto – a distance at which such a planet would not be visible from Earth. In fact, the known planets beyond Saturn were first discovered not visually but mathematically.
