The Friends Library is a special division of the Everett L. Cattell Library and houses a diverse collection of Friends (Quaker) writings. Materials range from the historical to the contemporary and include Yearly Meeting Minutes, genealogical information, periodicals, reports and books. While numerous materials stem from the college's close relationship with the Evangelical Friends Church, the collection also includes Yearly Meeting Minutes and documents from Friends Churches nationwide.

The Bundelkhand Friends Church in India was organized April 11, 1902 in Nowgong, Bundelkhand, India. It continued under the direction of the American Friends Mission in 1937. In 1950 BMMS was registered with the government as a separate body from the Mission. The minutes deal with various topics including: reports of area schools, work among the outcaste group of Chamars, work among the Kanjars, Zenana work, evangelistic camping, medical work, work with Red Cross during World War I, church and hospital buildings.

The history of the BMMS YM has its roots in the India Mission Council of the American Friends Mission. In 1942 this top policy making body opened its doors to include Indians in an advisory capacity in order to give them training as they took their position on various boards, including boards of Evangelism, Education, Medicine, Orphan Care, Trustees, Auditors. By 1957, the presence of missionaries on these boards were limited as more Indians were appointed to regular positions.

The Christian Education Department of the Evangelical Fellowship of India (CEEFI) was organized by the Evangelical Fellowship of India (EFI) in 1962. The American Friends Mission were charter members of both the EFI (1951) AND THE CEEFI (1962). In 1962, an AFM missionary, Anna Nixon, began her service as CEEFI’s first executive secretary, and she served as such until 1971. This collection contains only a portion of CEEFI history and materials.

The Christian Hospital was opened in Chhatarpur in 1931 by American Friends missionaries. Dr. Grace Jones Singh was the first Indian doctor at the facility, and the first woman in Bundelkhand to receive medical training.

The Emmanuel Hospital Association was founded under the auspices of the Evangelical Fellowship of India and brought together many mission hospitals in order to provide standardized methods of work so that with the withdrawal of missionary personnel, the hospitals, which served rural India, would not close.

The Union Biblical Seminary was established September 4, 153 at Yavatmal (old spelling Yeotmal), Maharashtra, India. As far back as 1948 plans had been underway under the leadership of Dr. Frank J. and Betty Kline of the Free Methodist Church. In 1953 the interested missionary boards organized in Cincinnatti, Ohio as the Cooperating Home Boards of Union Biblical Seminary, inc. The AFM was one of the early denominations participating in the founding of the seminary. The first chairman of the UBS Board of Governors was Dr. E. L. Cattell of the AFM.

The opportunity to establish the United Mission to Nepal in 1954 resulted from field trips by Dr. Robert L. Fleming under the auspices of the Chicago Museum of Natural History to collect birds. Accompanying him on these trips were Drs. Carl Taylor, Carl Fredericks, and Bethel Fleming, medical missionaries who rendered service to the people. That service was so greatly appreciated that it led to an invitation by His Majesty’s government for the Flemings and the Fredericks to start medical work in Kathmandu and Tansen. The AFM joined the United Mission in 1963 with the service of Dr. and Mrs. Ezra DeVol.

The World Evangelical Fellowship was formed in Barrington, USA, at a conference on August 27-31, 1956. It was at this meeting that the newly formed EFI became affiliated. In 1962 Dr. Everett Cattell of the AFM was elected president.
