TITLE: SECOND DUE LADDER COMPANY OPERATIONS MID RISE & MULTIPLE DWELLINGS & HOTELS
PURPOSE: TO PROVIDE A CONSISTENT PROCEDURE FOR THE 2ND DUE LADDER COMPANY RESPONDING TO A MID-RISE MULTIPLE DWELLING AND HOTEL OCCUPANCIES GENERAL: These documents represent a series of best practices. The document is intended only for the use of these agencies and not for any other public agency. The document is not intended to be relied upon by any individual, public or private, or agency. The documents achieve the best practice. Failure to adopt the NFPA (standard may not be used in court or in any other forum against these agencies or against any individual, other than used by these agencies. The imposition of discipline by these agencies against any individual under control of these agencies is not proof of the failure to comply with the standard of care, but only with these agencies practices. In many cases these practices strive to exceed the standard practice. Adoption of the NFPA (standards), when done, is not recognition of the standard but an attempt to) is not the failure to meet a standard of care but a conscious choice of which practices are the best practices for these agencies.
Officer - The officer of the second due truck in a multi-story apartment shall direct the inside team in search and rescue operations on the floor above the fire. He shall carry a small hand tool, light, SCBA, and radio.
F/E Man - The F/E man shall force entry on any doors needed to search on the floor above the fire. He shall then assist in primary search and check for fire extension on the floor above. He shall carry irons, radio, and SCBA.
Can Man - The can man of the second due truck shall assist in a primary search and check for fire extension on the floor above with the other members of the inside team. He shall carry a PW extinguisher, 6' hook, light, SCBA, and radio. O/V Man - The O/V man shall immediately go to the floor above by exterior means. He shall conduct a primary search and ventilate as needed from the outside in. He shall carry a 6' hook, halligan, SCBA, and radio. Roof Man - The roof man shall immediately go to the roof and assist the first due roof man with any roof operations. He shall carry a roof rope, saw as needed, roof hook, SCBA, light, and radio.
*** NOTE: THIS MULTI -STORY APARTMENT SOP SHALL APPLY TO 3 STORY AND ABOVE MULTIPLE OCCUPANCY BUILDINGS. IT SHALL ALSO APPLY TO 2 STORY AND ABOVE LARGE MULTIPLE OCCUPANCIES SUCH AS HOTELS. IT SHALL BE OF THE UTMOST IMPORTANCE THAT THE SECOND DUE TRUCK ASSEMBLE AND BE ASSIGNED TO WORK ABOVE THE FIRE IN WORKING FIRE SITUATIONS IN THESE BUILDING TYPES. THEY MAY ALSO BE USED TO RELIEVE THE FIRST DUE TRUCK OR COMPLETE SALVAGE AND OVERHAUL IN UNDER CONTROL SITUATIONS. IN THE EVENT OF SHORT SECOND DUE CREWS ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE GIVEN PRIOITY AS SEEN FIT BY THE SECOND DUE OFFICER.
