[As soon as the activities improve, as our karma improves, our happiness will increase. Happiness has no other way? With bad actions, nobody has ever become happy. Durvasa had insulted Ambarish Maharaj, without any reason, for a small thing however, he [Ambarish Maharaj] had to tolerate a lot. He [Durvasa] had to wander here and there because Kṛṣṇa did not want this, could not tolerate this insult. We also have to never insult anybody.]
[Parikshit Maharaja was a pure bhakta, because he was protected in his mother’s womb by Bhagavan. Ashwathama has released nuclear missile, so Bhagavan had protected him, and then he had the darshan of the Lord. Parikshit Maharaja was very undeviated, unflinching in devotional service, he had. He is very good. Devotees are … sarvair guṇais tatra samāsate surāḥ. (SB 5.18.12) Where there is bhakti, there all good qualities reside. harāv abhaktasya kuto mahad-guṇā]
[If one is a non-devotee, from where will he bring good qualities? He will always fight. This is the main thing to be understood. Let no bad quality come near us. Please, always, every day please take care of this that your life does not get dirty by the undue influence of the three modes of material nature and most probably the mode of ignorance. We always remain in mode of ignorance and what happens when we remain in mode of ignorance is that whoever comes in front of us we get angry at that person immediately. ]
[We know one grihastha who wakes up at eleven O’ clock in the morning. And whoever comes in front of him is finished, is dead, because after waking up at eleven O’ click he is full of mode of ignorance. Whoever comes to him for whatever reason, he vilifies him or scolds him. And his son is a devotee. He quickly wakes up at 5 O’clock, and goes to the temple for taking darshan. When he starts the geyser in morning, sound comes from the bathroom. That wakes his father up. He scolds his child and does not allow him to go to the mandir. This is mode of ignorance. Most probably the present civilization forces us always to be in the lower mode.]
What comfort can 5-star hotel provide?
[Parikshit Maharaja can get angry it was not possible at all. Once he went hunting, then he did not get any prey and became hungry and thirsty. There were no five star hotel around. We have hotels, 4 star, 3-4 star. More stars the better hotel it is. We say that, brother, if five star hotel is that good then if we sleep under millions of stars then how much better it will be? (laughs). If your 5 star gives you so much pleasure then imagine how much please millions of stars will give? (laughs) …
“No, no I don’t want that, I want 5 star.”
“O brother why?” (laughs)
We were in bliss. We used to sleep. There was first class chabutra, and in summers we used to sleep outside watching the moon and all the stars. And it was best, fresh air, and don’t ask how good sleep we used to have! We now we want this 5 star, this star, and sit there and smoke. (laughs)
The hotel smells so badly as if somebody had just smoked there. When you go to hotel, conditions are not proper. Just pay some money and live somehow. Even dog goes and sleeps somewhere there. That is the quality of our life. ]
Who is the secret doer?
[So what happened was Parikshit maharaja did not see anyone. Then he saw an ashram. He went into the ashram. It was Kshamik rishi’s ashram. He saw that Kshamik rishi was in sitting in meditation. However, Parishit maharaj became very angy. As I told you, he should not have gotten angry, because he was bhakta. However, again, very nicely Bhism deva has said:]
[O King, no one can know the plan of the Lord [Sri Krsna]. Even though great philosophers inquire exhaustively, they are bewildered.]
[There are very nices verses in Bhāgavatam. Please, you are all intelligent. Just try to learn few of the verses. These verses, these slokas, these are lively.] They are non-different from Krsna, so, how lively they should be? These slokas are not dead material. If you memorize one or two slokas then whole of the lifetime, you will be guided by those slokas. This is one of the best slokas, you know.
[The following is the second part of 2nd day of Bhagavat saptaha given by His Divine Holiness Srila Mahavishnu Maharaj given in Sydney on Sept 30th 2001]
na hy asya karhicid rājan, he says…O king you hear, Yudhisthira Maharaja was repenting, for he thought he is the cause of mass destruction in the Kurukshetra war. He thought, “Because I wanted to be the king that’s why I have killed so many living entities.”
This verse you know
na hy asya karhicid rājan
pumān veda vidhitsitam
yad vijijñāsayā yuktā
muhyanti kavayo 'pi hi Bhismdeva says “O King you hear, Yudhisthir Maharaja was repenting he thought that he is the cause of mass destruction in the Kurushetra war. Because I wanted to be the king that’s why killed so many living entities.”
Yaha Bhishma dev samjaraha hain, koye kisiko mar nahi sakta marne vala hi main hoon, aur ye dikta nain hai kabhi. Hari ne kaha ki dekho “na hy asya karhicid rājan” Jo be hota usme aap karan nahi ho. “pumān veda vidhitsitam”. Bhagavan ka plan. Uniki yojana hai. Uniki yojana ke hisaab se he hamesha sab kuch hota hai. Yedi hum itini aadat dale ke sabhi paristhiti main Kṛṣṇa ko dekhein to koyi jeev ke pratye hamare main eersha, dushmanavat kuchi nahi rahega. Kintu ham Kṛṣṇa ko dekte nahi hai.
[Here Bhishmadev is explaining, that nobody can kill anybody, Lord Kṛṣṇa is the killer, and this is never visible.
Lord Hari told that “Look, na hy asya karhicid rājan, whatever happens, you are not the cause. pumān veda vidhitsitam.” He has His plan. This is Bhagavan’s plan. This is his plan. Everything happens according to His plan. If we develop this habit, that we see the hand of Kṛṣṇa in all circumstances, then we will not have any envy or enmity towards anyone. However we never see Krsna.]
That is the biggest defect we have. Hame ye janate hain isne aisa kiya, ussne vaisa kiya, ussne vaisa kiya aur phir unko kooste hain hum phir. Tune aisa kyon kiya. Karne vala woh nahi hain. Karne vala woh Kṛṣṇa hai. “Maayaa javanikaacchannam”. Abhi apne suna hai Kunti prayer me maaya javanikaacchannam, there is a curtain, curtain Hindi me kya kehata hain … parda hain. Hamre aur Kṛṣṇa ka beech main e illusionary energy ka parda hain. Aur isse wo Kṛṣṇa dukk gaya hain. To hum jeev ko dekhte hain isne aisa kiya. Koyi nahi kar sakta, karne vala woh hain. Par kabhi hum usko blame nahi kar sakte hain, kyonki woh dikta nahi hai. [We blame others for their actions. “Why did you do like that”. The other person is not the doer, Kṛṣṇa is the doer. “māyā-javanikācchannam”
na lakṣyase mūḍha-dṛśā
naṭo nāṭyadharo yathā
[Being beyond the range of limited sense perception, You are the eternally irreproachable factor covered by the curtain of deluding energy. You are invisible to the foolish observer, exactly as an actor dressed as a player is not recognized.](SB 1.8.19)
Now we heard in Kunti’s prayers, maaya javanikaacchannam, there is a curtain between us and Krsna. There is a curtain of illusionary energy, with which Kṛṣṇa is covered. So we see that the other living entity did this. Nobody can do anything, the doer is Him. However we cannot blame Him, because He is unseen.]
Dekhiye etni baar marjate hain log aur hum poochata hai abhi kya hogaya father ko heart attack aagaya hai, abhi kya hogaya tere father ko accident hogaya, abhi kya huva father ko bimar the. Koyi aisa nahi kehta Kṛṣṇa ne mar diya mera father ko. Koyi nahi kehta hain. Aur sabko marne vala Kṛṣṇa hain. Magar Kṛṣṇa bilkul aatahi nahi hain samne. Karne vala be woh hai. Yeh jab hum samaj jate hain Bhishmadev se to hamare eersha dushmanavat sabh kuch nikal jati hain and this is the way our fabric of our own human existence must improve by the study of the pages of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. Ee improve karneka reet hain. Aap kali Kṛṣṇa ko dekhiye.
[Look, many times when we see people die, we ask, “Now what happened to your father?”
“He suffered heart attack.”
“Now what happened to your father?”
“He had an accident.”
“Now what happened to your father?”
“He was sick”
Nobody says “Kṛṣṇa killed my father.” Nobody says. However, Kṛṣṇa kills everyone, however, Kṛṣṇa is never in front.
He is the doer; when we understand this from Bhishmadev then our envy and enmity goes away]
And this is the way our fabric of our own human existence must improve by the study of the pages of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. [This is the way to improve. You see only Krsna.]
bahūnāḿ janmanām ante
jñānavān māḿ prapadyate
vāsudevaḥ sarvam iti
sa mahātmā su-durlabhaḥ
[After many births and deaths, he who is actually in knowledge surrenders unto Me, knowing Me to be the cause of all causes and all that is. Such a great soul is very rare.] (BG 7.19)
bahūnāḿ Anek anek janmon ke baad [after many births] ante- at the end, jñānavān- those who are knowledgeable, māḿ prapadyate - they attain me and what is that knowledge? vāsudevaḥsarvam iti sa mahātmā su-durlabhaḥ - impossible to find out a person who sees Kṛṣṇa in every situation. Please for a change completely change your vision and everybody will be friendly with you, because you are telling anything to anybody so there is no cause of creating enmity ee bath hain [this is the point] please. Improve your vision, and we are going to the correct vision. hum appko koyi misguide nahi kar rahe hain [we are not misguiding you]. Karne vala Bhagavan hain, hum kahete hain humare main, ki koi patha jo hilta hain ped ka, wo bhi uski marje ke bina nahi hilta hain. To yadi patha be nahi hilta hain to marne vala marjata hain to ho kaise uski marje ke bina marjata hain. Uski marje na hoti to aaj hajaro log America mein kyon marjate? Ee iski yojana hain na?
[Krishnaji says “bahūnāḿ” after many births, “ante” at the end, “jñānavān” those who are knowledgeable, “māḿ prapadyate” they attain Me. And what is that knowledge? vāsudevaḥ sarvam iti sa mahātmā su-durlabhaḥ. It’s impossible to find out a person who sees Kṛṣṇa in every situation. Please for a change completely change your vision and everybody will be friendly with you because you are telling anything to anybody, so there is no cause of creating enmity. This is the point, please. Improve your vision, and we are going to the correct vision. We are not misguiding you.Doer is Bhagavan.We say, even a leaf which moves cannot do so without the permission of the Lord.]
What is use of blaming others?
As soon as you see Him then we try to improve ourselves. We don’t try to beat about the bush.
Hum doosro ko blame nahi karte hain, hamareko blame karte hain. Kyonki hamari bhakti kum hain isliye Kṛṣṇa ne hamare ko ye bathaya hain; and improve your devotional service. [So if even a leaf cannot move (without His permission), then how they can one die without His permission. If His permission was not there, then how so many people could have died in America (on collapse of twin tower)? This is His plan, is it not?] As soon as you see Him then we try to improve ourselves. We don’t try to beat about the bush. [We do not blame others.We blame ourselves. Because our bhakti is less that’s why Kṛṣṇa has told us this; and improve your devotional service.]
That is the real cure. We just go outside and blame others for our own difficulties and anything happens we may get angry with that [man]. Anyhow, this was also a plan of Krishna. If Parikshit Maharaj, would not have become angry the whole Bhāgavatam would not have been narrated.
Bhāgavatam ka astitva he nahi hota. iske root main anger hai. Parikshit maharaj gusse hogaye, unhone bahar jate jate mara huva saap padata vaha wohan, wo lakadi se utakar usey gale main dal diya, woh rishi ki gale main. Aur aap jante ho ki uska baccha bhi Brahman tha brahma tej ta usme bhi usne suna apani baap ki gale main raja ne aisa dal diya hain, Shamik rushi ka; to usne gussa hogaya vaha, idhar Parikshit Maharaj gusse hogaye woh bhi gusse hogaye. Aur gussa honeke badh usne shraap dediya to ye saat din ke badh e wohi takshak nag se bite hokar hey marjayenge. Ye uska shaap tha. [Bhāgavatam would not have existed. Anger is in its root. When Parikshit Maharaj was angry, and while walking away, saw a dead snake, then took that snake with a stick and put it around sage Shaumik rishi’s neck. You know his son was also Brahman. He had the Brahmanic effulgence. He heard that on his father’s neck the king has put (a snake) like this. So he got angry and there Maharaj Parikshit was angry. The Brahmin boy cursed the king that he will die in seven days after getting bitten by a takshak nag snake. This was his curse.]
Now Parikshit Maharaj could have counter acted this. kuch na kuch kiya hota. Nahi to Bacche ko pakad lete ya usko maar dete kuch karte ya kudka kuch prayer karte kuch karte, kintu unhone nahi kiya kuch. hunhone svikaar karliya. Dekiye itine bade raja hote huhe bhi saare planet ke raja hote huhe bi bade raja hote huhe bhi inko jab ye ghar gaye rushiko gale main saap daalkar to unko pashataap hua. He was lamenting to mare haatse e paap huha hain. Ise badala abhi bhagavan muje dedo kyonki maine brahman ka apaman kiya hain
Now Parikshit Maharaj could have counter acted this. [He could have done something. He could have arrested or executed the child, or could have prayed (cursed) himself. However he did nothing like that. He accepted (the situation). Look, after being such a big King of the whole planet, he repented; after he reached home (after putting snake around sage’s neck), he was lamenting that he had committed a sin. He should be punished by God now, because he insulted a Brahmin.]
Brahminical culture should be propagated at any cost. Aur brahminical culture me kya hota hain whether the fiber of the behavior should be very fine. Ye kapada jitana fine hota hain na to pahaneme bada anand hota hain. Rough kapada to pahaneme anand nahi hota itina. This fiber of our life should become finer, finer and finest.e yaad rakiye isiko brahminical culture kahte hain. Aur hum to bhagya hamara bharat varshse hain. janma me yaha huha ho we are connected to bharatiya family and these things are in born in us. Hamareliye aagaya hain koye bahar se lane ki vasttu nahe hain e hamara paas hai hi. aur ye Prabhupadaji bata rahe hain ki … this is the way. This is the main thing to understand in this episode. Naito Parikshit Maharaj ko gussa honeka koyi karan nahi tha. Aur wo gussa hogaya to Brahman ko gussa hone ka koyi karan nahi tha. “pumān veda vidhitsitam”[SB 1.9.16] Bhagwan ka plan ham jante nahin hain. Par hamko dukh hota hai, ki Brahman ne aisa kaise kiya, isne aisa kaise kiya.
[Brahminical culture should be propagated at any cost and in brahminical culture, the fiber of our behavior should be very fine. If the cloth is very fine then it is blissful to wear that. Wearing rough cloth is not very blissful. This fiber of our life should become finer, finer and finest. Remember this. This is called brahminical culture. [This is our good forture that we are from Bharat, we may be born here, however, we are connected to bharatiya family and these things are inborn in us. This we have with us, and need not import from outside and this already with us, and Prabhupadaji is telling us that this is the way. This is the main thing to understand in this episode. Otherwise, there was no reason for Parikshit Maharaj to get angry. Even if he got angry, there was no reason for the Brahmin boy to get angry. “pumān veda vidhitsitam”(SB 1.9.16) We don’t knowwhat is God’s plan. However we feel pained that why Brahman behaved that way and why he did that way.]
Is this world my permanent place?
Aur jabb Parikshit Maharaj ko pata chala, unhon ne sabb chod diya. Par kitana chodna pada hoga, hum hamara ghar chod nahi sakta hain, koyi paach dollar kahi gir jaye to saare dhuniya ulti karke humm doond lete hain ki “kaha hain paach dollar kaha hain paach dollar”. Par Aur itina bada rajya chhodna e asaan nahi tha but immediately he left. Kyon ki wo janta tha ke ye kaya aaj nahi kal kabhi na kabhi e jaanae vali hai. Aur aahi gaya hai to kumse kum saat din ka to samay hai, usme tayyari karloon. [When Parikshit came to know (abou this impending death), he left everything. However, how much he must have had to renounce we cannot imagine… we cannot leave our home, if we drop five dollars somewhere then we search the whole world upside down in order to find it… “Where is five dollars? Where is five dollars?” However, to leave the entire kingdom was not easy, but immediately he left, because he knew that this body will go, today or tomorrow. And since it has already come, atleast I have seven days to get prepared.]
Aur saat din keliye aisa kaha jata hain shaastro main ke hafte main saat din hote hain humere ko koyi din jana hai. Saatvo din main se he ham jaayenge. Ya aap jain ravivar ko jaaye Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday jo be ye saat din me sehe jaana hain. And we have some time may be at our disposal. So daily please you may not visit the cemetery or at least in them morning you should remember. smashaan ko yaad karo [everyone laughs along with Maharaj]. Ki Ek din vaha sona hain. Eisa bilkul nahi hain ke exceptions nahi hain; Aur kab sona padega wo pata nahi hain. Eisa na sochiye nahi humare baal safed nahi huhain abhi pacchaas saal hain. Bhagavaan kare aap ko sou saal de. Kitu na mele to ek second na mele. Humne dekha wo building me kitane log kaam karne keliye gaye honge aur kitane uniki soach vichaar honge and within no time within 20 minutes wo card ka sug jaise neeche baitgaya hain. This is our life.
[And regarding these seven days it has been said in the sastras that in a week also there are seven days. We have to go one of these days. We have to go in these seven days. You may go Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, whatever it is, you have to go in these seven days. And we have some time may be at our disposal. So daily please you may not visit the cemetery or at least in the morning you should remember.Remember the cemetery that one day everyone has to lie down here without exception. And when one will have to lie down here in cemetery without exception and when you may have to sleep that I don’t know. Don’t think that because my hair has not yet turned white, I have 50 years. May God grant you 100 year of life. However, it may happen that you may not have one second more. We saw in that building (twin towers in New York) how many people must have gone to work and how varied their thoughts may be and within no time within 20 minutes, it collapsed like card castle.] This is our life.
Aur e life hone se Parikshit Maharaj se hum itinahe seek le ki jaise bhi inhone within no time he just left everything, started fasting. Humare ko marna hota hum bhole pahle rasagulla kaloon bad main dekhenge [everyone laughs]. That is our fiber humara fiber hai ye. Ki bhai lana, hume jana hain banalo first class dokle patre kya bhi. [In this life of ours let’s learn this thing from Parikshit Maharaj. Within no time he left everything and started fasting. If we have to die, then we would have told first let me eat rasagulla, after that we’ll see. (everyone laughs). That is our fiber. “I have to go” … lets first cook and eat, dokle, patre, etc.]
Please, please, please you have to control.
Jo kum khata hain woh gum khata hain hamesha. Aap wo gum khana hain shaant rehana hain to you have to reduce your intake. Kum kane vala hi gum ka sakta hain jyada kane vala hamesha tam me rahega, Kyonki uski tabiyat he aise nahi rahege. Hamesha bharatahi rehata hain. Chai to aati hai, coffee to aate hain, biscuits aa rahe hain, hamare India main pav vada aata hain [Maharaj laughs] bahuth prakhyaat hain “aane do pav vada aane do”, peet ittna bada huha hain ussme aur ek jyada [Maharaj laughs]. Chalna nahi kuch nahi baitna araam se “aane do aane do aane do”. This is our condition. Please ye na kare. Shastro ki e shiksha nahi hain.
[One who eats sparingly, eats away the sorrows. If you have to reduce the sorrows, if you have to remain peaceful then you have to reduce your intake. The person who eats less takes on less sorrow. The person who eats more will always remain in tama (laziness), because he will never remain healthy. Tea, coffee, biscuit keeps coming; in our India pav vada keeps coming [laughs], many types keep coming, “Let it come. Pav Vada, let it come”, belly is this big already, let there be one more [laughs]… Don’t have to walk or do any work… just sit comfortably. “Let it come, let it come!”.] This is our condition. Please not do this. Sastras do not teach us this.]
Phela kuch ho jai shareer main to muh bandh karna hain. Ekto bolna nahi hai jyada kisi ko gusse main kuch. Mann chalta hi nahi hain aur gusse kaiko ho. Ye hamare Mathane accha kehate hain bacche inke bacche kahate hain inko ki tu fikkar kyon karte hain. Kṛṣṇa pe barosa nahi hain tere ko. Kṛṣṇa will do everything. He is very correct. Bus tu kya uchee neeche ho rahi ho. [laughs]. This is our way. Hamre ko bhagavan pe shradha hi nahi hain. Aur Shradha hain to kum hain. [If something happens to the body, then first thing you do is to fast. Firstly, don’t talk in anger with anyone. When the mind is not working then why you are angry? Our mataji has aptly said that her children say to her, “Why do you worry? You don’t have faith in Krsna? Kṛṣṇa will do everything.” He is very correct. Why are you getting upset? (laughs) This is our way. We don’t have faith in God, and even have some faith, it is quite less.]
