Parents/guardians are reminded that when dropping your child/children off in the morning, the school yard is supervised from 8:50 a.m. Children should be dropped off at the school yard gate behind the buses or through the parking lot. Please refrain from dropping off on Amelia Street. Children are walking between buses to access the school yard which is creating an unsafe situation. Our students’ safety is of the utmost importance to us.

In the event of buses being cancelled due to inclement weather, please see Central Public School’s website and Facebook to review Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario’s (STEO) 2012-2013 Inclement Weather Procedure documents.

Also, if the school buses are cancelled on pizza days, and your child is at school, pizza will be ordered for those present.

The school will be closed from Monday, December 24, 2012 and will reopen Monday, January 7, 2013.

The grade 2 and 3 FI classes are challenging the other classes to see who can raise the most money during this year's "Penny Drive". The money being raised will be going towards purchasing the apples for the Children's Christmas Fund, Christmas baskets. The class who raises the most money between December 5th and December 14th, will win a pizza party. So bring in those pennies (and/or any coin or money donation) and donate to the Children's Fund Christmas Baskets, and win your class a pizza party! Good luck and thank you for your generosity.

We now look forward to winter activities. TAG – Snow Angel Tag; TEAM – Seal Slide; Field - Capture the Snowball; CIRCLE TIME – Throwing for Distance; and our newest game ON THE PAVEMENT – Snow Scotch.

We are also going to have P.A.L.S. in the gym on indoor recesses! Activities to look forward to are: cards, colouring, dice games, elastic, cat’s cradle and stacking cups.
PEACEMAKERS are still being trained for specific duties around the school. Thank you to all those students who continue to show great leadership.

Peacemakers will continue to have meetings about helping with others on the yard. We will be looking for volunteers to help at the doors and soon the ice and snow areas on the yard.

Kindergarten Family Fun Night

Another successful event was held in November for our Kindergarten families. We welcomed France Allard from the Ottawa Children's Treatment Centre to help us strengthen our fine motor skills. During the rest of the year, every Kindergarten family will be receiving 5 Family Fun Kits to be used at home. These kits are provided to us by our local FACES (Family and Community Engagement Strategy) committee and are financially supported by The Learning Partnership and The Ontario Trillium Foundation.  Keep playing with your children at home - you are your child's first and best teacher!

The Ultimate Chicken team played in a tournament on Friday, November 30, 2012 at the Benson Centre.  Team members included Alexia Bourget, MacKenzie Mitchell, Kacey Alilkas, Amanda Locey, Talon Flaro, Mooez Mehmood, Dylan Simser, Dorian Belanger, Roger Furoy, Steven Williams, Max Benson, Justin Lameroux-Lalonde and Thevan Mohanathas. The team finished first after the round-robin and then lost in the semi-finals. WELL DONE TEAM!

Students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6 were involved and engaged in various lessons and activities throughout the school on October 31st for our Fall Into Fairytales day. We wish to acknowledge the support of MASC and TD Canada Trust for helping us bring Rag and Bone Theatre Company to our school for two presentations of The Nightingale. Set in Ancient China, the Hans Christian Anderson story focused on how a small bird teaches the Great Emperor the value of simple things and true friendship.

When enjoying winter sports, it’s just as important to wear a helmet as when cycling during the summer. Here are a few tips to stay safe this winter:

  • Wear a hockey helmet when playing hockey, ice-skating or sledding

  • Wear a ski or snowboard helmet when downhill skiing or snowboarding

  • Do not wear a bicycle helmet, as they are not designed for winter sports

  • Winter helmets should fit snugly and be insulated

  • Replace the helmet if it has been dropped or the wearer has been in a fall or collision

  • Helmets should be replaced every 5 years
