COMMUNICATIONS DIVISION

PUBLIC PRESENTATIONS
Public Presentation Rules and Regulations


  1. In order to exhibit in the Public Presentation classes, the 4-H member must be enrolled in Public Presentations – Public Presentations Pub. MB-0115

  2. Participants are permitted to use note cards unless otherwise stated.

  3. County may submit four (4) entries from classes 1-4 for State Fair. Journalism and Communication classes are not State Fair eligible. No more than one entry may be made in an individual class.


Class 01 - Formal Speech Formal speeches (without props or aids) must be between 4-6 minutes in length and done by an individual member. Note cards are not considered a prop or visual aid and are allowed in this class.
Class 02 - Illustrated Speech Illustrated speeches (with visual aids) must be between 4-6 minutes in length and done by an individual member.

Class 03 - Oral Interpretation May be humorous or dramatic interpretation, oratorical declamation, prose reading or verse reading. Material may be read or memorized. May be done by an individual or a team of no more than three members. Musical presentations are not appropriate for this class. Interpretation must be between 4-6 minutes in length.

Class 04 - Original Works Member may present any type of original works (such as comedy, storytelling, original poetry, radio segment, etc.) Segment must be between 4-6 minutes in length. May be done by an individual or a team of no more than three members.

JOURNALISM
Journalism Rules and Regulations:


  1. In order to exhibit in the Journalism (newswriting) class, the 4-H member must be enrolled in: Journalism – Journalism Pub. MB-0200

  2. Exhibit should be done neatly and placed in a folder.

  3. There is no State Fair selection for this class.


Class 08 – Journalism

Exhibit two stories that member wrote and had published in a printed newspaper, newsletter, journal, magazine, etc. Stories included on the World Wide Web are acceptable ONLY if included on a "juried-type" site (magazine, journal, newspaper, etc.). Individual web sites are not acceptable in this class. Include both published copy and original copy of the stories.

  1. In order to exhibit in the nonverbal communication classes, the 4-H member must be enrolled in:

Communication I - Picking Up the Pieces Pub. BU-08156 or


Communication II - Putting It Together Pub. BU-08157 or

Communication III - The Perfect Fit Pub. BU-08158


  1. Exhibits in the Communication classes are not eligible for state fair.



Class 09Communication I


Exhibit any product or display related to the member project manual.

Class 10 - Communication II


Exhibit any product or display related to the member project manual.
Class 11 – Communication III

Exhibit any product or display related to the member project manual.
