Visit to Doctor Faustus on Monday 6th June 2016 at 7.30pm at the Duke of York’s Theatre The Drama department is pleased to announce a trip to see Doctor Faustus at The Duke of York Theatre to support their classwork. This is an optional trip offered by the Drama department. Attending live performances will enhance and support your daughter’s class work, develop her ability to critically evaluate live theatre and enhance her knowledge and understanding of the theatre arts.
Praised for their innovative and anarchic reinvention of the classics, The Jamie Lloyd Company propels Christopher Marlowe’s legendary tale Doctor Faustus into the here and now in an explosive new production starring Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) in his long-awaited return to the London stage.
Faustus makes a pact with the Devil, selling his soul in return for the ability to perform absolutely anything he pleases with the power of black magic. This fatal decision catapults him into an intoxicating world of celebrity, as he becomes a world-renowned conjuror, international heartthrob and friend of the rich, famous and powerful. But what is the cost of his insatiable thirst for wealth and fame?
With blackly comic new scenes by Colin Teevan, the story of this 400-year-old play is transported to a celebrity-obsessed society of greed and instant gratification, offering a fresh, new perspective that chimes with our times.
Students will travel from school to Carshalton Rail Station at 5:15pm on Monday 6th June, for a 7:30pm performance start. Students will travel as a group by train to the venue and return by train at the end of the performance. The show runs for approximately 2hrs and 15 mins including an interval. Students will then return to Carshalton Station for approx 11:00 pm.
The cost of the theatre trip is £15.00, which does notcover travel costs. Students will need to make sure that they have enough money on their oyster card or purchase a travel card on the day of travel. We recommend £10.00 to cover travel costs.
