I Ain’t Gonna Paint No More
Materials:

  • I Ain’t Gonna Paint No More! by Karen Beaumont (found in the Everyone section - E Bea)

  • Body outline pages

  • Crayons (crayon buckets are on shelves in workroom)


Lesson:

  • Read the book to students. Pause periodically for students to make predictions about what part will be painted next.

  • Have students share their favorite part of the story.

  • Show students the human body outline. Explain they will be going to the tables and you will re-read the story and this time they will color the matching body part on their paper as you read the story.

  • Send students to tables, re-read the story, and pause after each body part is mentioned so they can color the corresponding body part on their page.

  • If there is extra time have students return to the carpet and stand a safe distance from one another. Re-read the story and have students touch their bodies when you say the corresponding body part.


Clifford
Materials:

  • Any 2 Clifford books by Norman Bridwell (found in the Everyone section - E Bri)

  • Clifford coloring page

  • Crayons (crayon buckets are on shelves in workroom)


Lesson:

  • Read the book to students. Pause periodically for students to make predictions about what will happen next.
  • Have students share their favorite part of the story.


  • Repeat with 2nd story.

  • Send students to tables and have them pick a Clifford picture to color.


Arthur
Materials:

  • Any Arthur book by Marc Brown (found in the Everyone section – E Bro)

  • Arthur mask page

  • Crayons (crayon buckets are on shelves in workroom)

  • Scissors (scissors are on shelves in workroom)

  • Popsicle sticks (popsicle sticks are on shelves in workroom)

  • Glue bottle (glue is on shelves in workroom)


Lesson:

  • Read the book to students. Pause periodically for students to make predictions about what will happen next.

  • Have students share their favorite part of the story.

  • Send students to tables to color their Arthur mask and cut it out.

  • When students have cut out their mask glue their popsicle stick onto their mask for them.


Corduroy
Materials:

  • Corduroy by Don Freeman (found in the Everyone section – E Fre)

  • “Corduroy and other Tales of Friendship” DVD (found in the Video/DVD section)

  • TV with DVD player


Lesson:

  • Read the book to students. Pause periodically for students to make predictions about what will happen next.

  • Have students share their favorite part of the story.

  • Show students the “Corduroy” section of the DVD.

  • If there is extra time, show students other selections from the DVD.

Tacky the Penguin

Materials:


  • Tacky the Penguin by Helen Lester (found in the Everyone section – E Les)

  • Disney Instrumental CD (in stack of CDs next to CD player)

  • CD player (behind checkout desk – move this and plug it in by carpet)


Lesson:

  • Read the book to students. Pause periodically for students to make predictions about what will happen next.

  • Have students share their favorite part of the story.

  • Discuss how Tacky’s friends marched in the story and how Tacky marched.

  • Call on a few students one at a time to come up and show how Tacky’s march might look if we did it.

  • Have all the students stand up (and move a safe distance apart) and practice marching both the way Tacky’s friends marched and the way Tacky marched.

  • Explain to students that when the music is playing they should march like Tacky’s friends and when it stops they should march like Tacky.

  • Play and stop the music for the activity.
