Need for St. Ann Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC).  Beginning July 1, St. Ann will need at least 16 new St. Ann EMHCs (“Eucharistic Ministers”) to serve in this wonderful ministry at one of the five weekend Masses.  That is because 16 current EMHCs will be rotating off of this ministry.  EMHCs are scheduled for certain weekends at the Mass they usually attend.  Candidates must attend a single 2-hour Diocesan training workshop that is this year offered only three times in English and once in Spanish, all in April and May.  The convenient ones are offered at the Cathedral of St. Thomas More, Arlington on Saturday, April 2, 10:00 a.m.-noon (English), or the Spanish Apostolate (Diocesan Center), 80 North Glebe Road, Arlington on Saturday, April 9,10:00 a.m.-noon (Spanish).  Pastors nominate parishioners for appointment by the Bishop.  Please consider serving the St. Ann community in this ministry!  For more information or to express interest, please contact Mike or Kathy Bates, (703) 533-8516,

kwbates2@gmail.com (English Masses); or Elvia Silva, (703) 671-1970elviasilva@hotmail.com (Spanish Mass)

The Good News

Saint Ann Catholic School

Believe • Achieve • Inspire

Good News from St. Ann School:

This month the Saint Ann's students are writing to the wounded warriors and the patients taken care of by hospice.

In addition, during the season of Lent, the children make sandwiches for the hungry and homeless in Arlington.  EveryThursday, two classes are assigned to bring bread, meat, and cheese and they stay after school to put the sandwiches together.

Middle School News:

The middle school is working on final drafts of "Hint Fiction"--stories written in 25 words or less. The results are being posted on the bulletin board this week.

The 6th and 7th grade are writing fiction as their essay this quarter. To better illustrate the characterization of their main characters, they each created a bio and a picture of their main characters with each characters likes and dislikes. These illustrations are hanging in the middle school hallway.

The 8th grade is well into reading Taming of the Shrew. They are also creating poetry from excerpts of Shakespearean plays and poems. In an activity called "Black Out Shakespeare," 8th grade students color over words in Shakespearean passages, creating their own original poetry and messages. The results will be posted in the middle school hallway.

Grades 7 and 8 are exploring the Beatitudes and the Church's understanding of how to best live them from day to day.  They often show wisdom beyond their years when sharing why the living of the Beatitudes matters to them as young people in a challenging world and also have shown solid critical thinking skills in connecting various saints to the practice of specific Beatitudes.   A very hopeful sign for the future of the Church!
