Gifted Hands ABC Choice Board Project


ABC BOOK

Create an ABC book using all of the 26 letters of the alphabet. Include a cover for the book. The letters must represent an important character, description,

plot, message, setting, idea, or

feeling about the book. Each letter needs to have a description and an illustration.



STORY COLLAGE

Create a story collage. Be sure to draw an appropriate setting for the story. Next, draw or cut-out and paste pictures that represent each of the following information: main characters, main events beginning,

middle, and end), the problem, solution, and what you liked best about this book. You must use each letter of the alphabet (26).


ILLUSTRATED TIMELINE

Create a timeline of the book. Your timeline must include at least 10 major events with descriptions in order from beginning to end of the story along with pictures to

represent each event. You should have a total of 10 pictures along with your 10 major events along your timeline.

AND

Write a poem using the other 16 letters OR write a letter to one of the characters using the other 16 letters.


STORY IN A BOTTLE

Use a 2-liter clean, empty soda bottle and remove the label. Choose one character from the book and create a new label to paste on the bottle that will represent that character. The new label should include: the setting of the story, title, author’s name, and 3 facts about the story you read along with 3 illustrations.

Fill the bottle with items that represent the characters in the story and write a poem or rap for each letter of the alphabet (26).


STORY MOBILE

Create a hanging mobile with information on both sides of card/sheet. Include a picture of the setting and description of the scene/character/setting chosen (on back) and an illustration and facts about the chosen information (on front).


You should use all 26 letters of the alphabet.


PAPER PLATE TRI-ORAMA

Make a tri-orama out of paper plates. Have each tri-orama scene show an important part or event from the story. Be sure to include the setting and something that demonstrates what the plot of the story is about on each scene.

Design a new book jacket for your story. Front, back, and inside flaps should be filled with: cover illustration of setting and main characters, summary of story, author information, and book review quotes. Be sure to use your own words for this project.

AND

Write a friendly letter (using the proper format and all letters of the alphabet) to a character. Your letter must have the following parts: a short introduction of you, what you liked about the book and characters, how you felt while reading it and why, questions for the character, and why you would recommend this book to someone else.



STORY SCRAPBOOK

Create a scrapbook about the story using the entire alphabet (26). Include a cover page and pages demonstrating pictures and information on each of the following parts of the story: characters, setting, major events, problems and solutions. Each picture will need to have a brief description. Include a picture for each letter (26).





Compare/Contrast

Using the 26 letters of the alphabet, you will write a poem or short story comparing, contrasting, or both yourself to Dr. Carson. You can use the letters in any order or form you desire, but you must use all the letters.



VIDEO STORY

Create a slide show, video, xtranormal, movie preview, a cd, podcast, etc. Make sure that you use lines from the book, characters, settings, etc. in your creation. Be sure to set your slide show to music that reflects the mood and or theme of the novel. All letters of the alphabet must be used (26).

All parties agree that academic success is the product of a cooperative effort. To ensure that ________________________________ will benefit from this union, each party has the following responsibilities:

  1. choose a project, complete all areas of the chosen project, and put the best effort

possible into the completion of the project.

  1. come to class prepared with project resources and materials for maximum use of class

time.

  1. spend at least 20 minutes a day preparing the project.

  2. Follow the rubric (column 1) for optimal success.

As a parent/guardian, _________________________ will:



  1. provide the proper resources and materials my child needs to complete the project.

  2. complete daily progress checks for my child’s project.

  3. communicate with Dr. Prothro about any questions or concerns.

  4. ensure that my child will come to class prepared with project resources and materials for

maximum use of class time.

  2. provide the students with clear and concise expectations and directions through a rubric.
  3. enforce rubric requirements and grade only according to the rubric’s requirements.


  4. work to make learning an enjoyable and impressionable experience.

The project is due at the beginning of class Wednesday, May 14, 2014. Your parent/ guardian’s signature is due by Tuesday, May 6, 2014 in order to receive 10 extra points on your project grade. All parent signatures are due by Thursday, May, 8, 2014; if no signature is received, your parent/guardian will be called or emailed so that they are aware of the upcoming project. This project is an opportunity for you to increase your grade. Take advantage of it and do your best. This assignment will count as a Major Assessment (30%) grade. If you make an 80 or above on the project, the grade may replace the Utopian/Dystopian project grade and count as your final exam grade also. We will discuss this on an individual basis.
