At the beginning of the legend how do the ciguapas view humans? In the end how does that view change, and what happens to change their minds about human beings? Use evidence from the text to support your answer.

  • Ciguapas thought that people would capture them because they are so beautiful

  • Ciguapas thought that doctors would put them in a cage and study them

  • Ciguapas thought they would be forced to live on land

  • Ciguapas thought humans are unkind

  • Guapa, a ciguapas, was curious about humans and wondered what it is like to be a human child

  • Guapa came upon a family having a picnic

  • When the family got up for a walk, Guapa snatched a snack from leftovers in a basket

  • Guapa fell down and was caught by the family

  • The family thought her feet were twisted
  • The family went to get a doctor, but the boy stayed with her

  • The boy showed her kindness by standing guard beside her

  • The boy showed kindness by offering her food, and then leaving her alone to get her water

  • After Guapa ran back to the cigapas, the queen admitted human beings can be kind
