First grade students will read the following books for their beginning of the year projects: Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss and Dogs In Space by Nancy Coffelt. Students will complete two tasks based upon their understanding of these books: 1.) a book report and 2) The Mystery Bag activity. (See the attached sheets for activity details.) Only one activity is required for each book, but both activities MUST be completed.
Explanation of grade for Book Report:
Name, Date, Title of Book, Author (worth 5 points each)
Setting, Characters, Facts about Character, Favorite Part, Beginning, Middle, End, and Different Ending (worth 10 points each)
Explanation of grade for The Mystery Bag:
Mystery Bag: Decorated in line with the theme of book, including labels for the student’s name, book title and author’s name,the bag should be colorful, neat, and pleasing to the eye. (worth 40 points)
Three Items:The items chosen should relate in some meaningful way to the character(s), setting, or plot of the story. Student should be able to tell in their own words (during the presentation) the connection/correlation of their item to their chosen book. (worth 60 points)

Students will read a book of their choice (from the 1st Grade Summer Reading List).
Upon completion of reading, think of some of the most important parts of the book (characters, places, ideas, etc.) and find three objects to symbolize, or represent, them.
