AND CONFERENCE SERVICES AT WESTIN BOOK CADILLAC DETROIT DETROIT, MI – April 30, 2008 – Greta Lawrence, has been appointed director of catering and conference services for the Westin Book Cadillac Detroit. The 455-room, 33-story hotel, will open in October 2008 following a $200 million restoration. Prior to her appointment, Lawrence was general manager, Sodexho Corporate Services at the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA). Lawrence will oversee social and business catering functions in the hotel’s Crystal, Venetian and Woodward ballrooms and the Italian Garden, as well as managing the hotel’s grand opening charity dinner, The Book Cadillac: The Next Chapter on October 25.
Lawrence’s hospitality career began in 1973 with various management positions at the Calgary Hotel (Alberta, Canada); The Carleton Hotel (Johannesburg, South Africa); and the Century Plaza in Los Angeles. She spent over 10 years as director of catering and convention services for the Westin Renaissance Center Detroit before joining Sodexho at the DIA. At the DIA she opened the museum’s new dining facility and coffee shop, as well as overseeing catering events since 1996.
Lawrence is a graduate of Calgary’s Mount Royal College and participated in several professional development programs in leadership, teamwork, and retail management. She and her family reside in Grosse Pointe, Mich.
