Children’s Story Interpretation




Directions: You will interpret a children’s story.



  • Choose a children’s book to sign for the class. I must approve the story you choose. No pre-approval will mean a 5 point deduction on final grade. See the guidelines below for story length.

  • Type your book in a word document and email to me as an attachment using the following format:

Name/Period

Title of book (word count)
Story……


  • Glossed final draft: Type the book in a table in Word following the example below exactly. (all glossing marks MUST be typed… not hand written)

  • Make a recording of someone reading the book out loud and showing the pictures of the book. Post it to YouTube and email the link to me on the assignment due date. Practice signing the story. Be sure to practice with your reader!

  • You may work with a partner or you may tape yourself or another person reading the book. You must be able to keep up with the voicing.

EVALUATION:



Written (50 points): Type out the English story page by page and cross out all the words not signed. Gloss and include all glossing marks. Follow the example below exactly!



Signing (100 points): Your signs are correct and fluency in natural. NMS involves both expression and necessary grammar markers.

Length: I will not accept books over 300 words. There will be a 10 point point deduction if you choose to use a book over 300 words.





200-250 words = A
150-199 words = B
100-149 words = C
50-99 words = D

Continue with this format until all pages of the story have been thoroughly glossed…
REMINDERS:

  1. If your book is not pre-approved in the correct format you will lose 5 points.

  2. If the format is incorrect on your final draft you will loose up to 10 points.

  3. If your word count is over 300 words you will lose 10 points.

  4. DO NOT pick a book based on sounds.

  5. DO NOT pick books with repetitive language.

  6. If you use your script while signing it will be an automatic 10 point deduction unless you have a current IEP or 504 on file with me—you know who you are.
