Lunaria is, according to the current Italian legislation, an Association for Social Promotion. It was created in 1992, and since then it is a non governmental body, autonomous from religious and political affiliations and not-profit. Our activities focus on research and action research, training and communication on several social issues such as fair economy, the development of third sector, the study of migration flows, of globalisation the trends and the links between democracy and participation and the importance of informal and non formal education through the promotion of international voluntary service activities. We test new forms of active citizenship and non-violent social change inspired by the principles of justice, solidarity, democracy and, nationally and internationally, the respect of human rights for all.
Every year, Lunaria involves around 1500 young volunteers in its programmes, including workcamps, youth exchanges, medium and long term volunteering. This is possible thanks to the collaboration with the organizations of the Alliance of the European Voluntary Service Organizations and to the Italian network coordinated by Lunaria, where local groups, associations, cooperatives and municipalities can plan an implement international voluntary services projects.
“We ask to the international volunteers to commit themselves in the mission of the hosting projects, having an open mind, and arriving aware that the accommodation conditions may not be suitable for those looking for cheap and comfortable holidays. Every project is made by many factors, and we need from the volunteers a problem-solving approach.”
The workcamp is coordinated by an experienced volunteer, who is not the boss of the camp: we ask the camp-coordinators to ease the first days of the camp and to involve the volunteers in a being responsible of the project, using consensus methodology. The camp-coordinator is not at all responsible for volunteers' fun and the best camp has a camp-coordinator who slightly go back to the status of normal volunteer.....So, prepare to take responsibilities!
Age limits: For adult camps see details in the programme tables and 16-17 or 15-17 on teen camps.
Common language used in the camps: English
Fees: Some exceptions are meant to support the costs of the project (15-25 €). Teen workcamps have participation fee to cover the cost of the professional leaders and part of the project costs. No administrative costs are covered by the participation fee. Inscription fee for Italian volunteers is 105€.
Insurance: Lunaria provides insurance to all the volunteers (SCI scheme)
