When we read the story tomorrow, we’ll learn about a plan that a family has for helping their sick grandfather. They will have to spend 3 weeks helping him on his farm instead of going to the beach. Have you ever had to give something up to help someone?
Here are some words we will read in tomorrow’s story.
Touch the word, say it, have students repeat. Use the same procedure with remaining words.
Call on individual children randomly to read the words independently.
Introduce word meanings:
Touch and read the sentence with the students: 1. Spending time on the farm isn’t much of a holiday.
Holiday means a rest or a vacation. Do you think working on a farm would be a good vacation? Why?
Touch and read the sentence with the students: 2. “Then we can get up, eat, and get on the road by nine.”
In this sentence “on the road” means driving. Have you ever been “on the road” early for a trip?
