Become knowledgeable about spatial awareness.

Go outside adult blows bubbles. Children observe and discuss what happens to the bubbles. Discuss how they float, burst, change direction etc. Emphasise when they pop and the reason.

Children to find their marker and create their bubble. Within their bubble they can stretch, long thin bubble, wide bubble etc. Move like a bubble- gently, slowly, sits quietly. Remind the children their bubble will pop if they come into contact with another child.

Moving over, onto, behind, in front etc of marker.

Finish the session by the bubbles floating down to the ground without bursting and holding a still position for a count of 10.

Set up an area relating to space e.g. hoops-planets, stickers-stars, markers- space ships. Travel as aliens around the environment. Referring back to pathways/bubble activities. On command “star” children find a star marker and perform a star shape. On command “rocket” children start down low and on the count down 54321 jump up high and move as a rocket around the space.

On command “space ship” children turn on the spot. On the command “planet” children stand in a hoop.

Cool down -stars on floor, hold for the count of 5.

Please note this should be introduced gradually e.g. rocket and planet week 1 and recap as a warm up week 2 before introducing star and aliens.
