Dear Friends,

I am choosing to reflect on Gospel for Year B and not the RCIA Gospel. Jesus cleanses the temple because of his zeal for his Father’s house. After his resurrection we read that, the disciples remembered that he said he would be raised up in three days and recalled the words of Scripture, “Zeal for your house will consume me.” (Psalm 69:9) The Gospel continues, “They came to believe the Scripture and the words Jesus had spoken.”

It is good for us to be aware that the disciples knew what we call the Old Testament. For them that was the Scripture. When they came to believe the Scripture means that they came to understand that the Scripture explained to them something about Jesus. The words of Jesus confirmed that what the Scripture said was about him. The conclusion of this brief reflection is that the entire Bible, Old Testament and New Testament are about Jesus.
This Gospel story helps me understand and control my own angry feelings. It is a story I suggest to those who are seeking help in controlling their angry feelings. Strong feelings in themselves are neither good nor bad, just strong feelings. Jesus’ strong feelings were zeal for the temple, the house of his Father. He took the occasion to teach the meaning of his death. “Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up.”
Perhaps you will find this reflection suitable for one of your Lenten prayers.

Queridos amigos,

Look for Volunteer Forms that are titled “I WANT TO VOLUNTEER” To Help During The 2015 OYSTER BAKE on the tables in the Church, fill it out and place it in a box mark Oyster Bake Fundraiser.

LIFE IN THE SPIRIT classes at St. Paul Catholic Church will be held from March 2 through April 6 from 7 – 9pm every Monday in Our Lady’s Chapel. This is a great opportunity during Lent to learn more about New Life in the Spirit. All are welcome! If you have any questions, please contact Irene Arismendez at 220-4488, Monday – Friday from 8am to 5pm.

ASSUMPTION SEMINARY will close its centennial celebration and start its next centennial celebration on October 2, 2015. Many of the first gifts to the seminary were “memorial burses” which were meaningful gifts for the first hundred years. Similar gifts are needed as Assumption Seminary embarks on its second century and strives to provide quality formation for today’s spiritual fathers. One simple way to make a planned gift: a bequest in your will or living trust. On the tables in the Church you will fine cards which you can fill out and send to Assumption Seminary for more information on how to help them out.

SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS: After reflecting on today’s

scripture readings, consider how you would answer the following questions:

  1. List some laws you feel strongly should be obeyed. Are there laws you are willing to break?

  2. What habits or attitudes have you had to unlearn over the years? Has your view of the cross changed as you age?
  3. Our sense of law is like a daisy: we love it, we hate it. Is there a law you would most like to see made more elastic?
