Materials:

Stay! A Top Dog Story by Alex Latimer

Thinking map flipchart

Paper copies of Bubble Map with “responsibility” in the center

Pencils


Standards:AFS.K12.W.3.9and e
LAFS.K12.W.3.9 Draw evidence from literary and informational texts to support analysis reflection and research.
LAFS.2.RL.3.7 Use information gained from the illustrations and word in a print or digital text to demonstrate understanding of its characters, setting, or plot.

AASL2.2.4 Demonstrate personal productivity by completing products to express learning.



Objectives:

Students will be introduced to this year’s FRA Award books.

Students will listen and respond to the read aloud.

Students will complete a bubble map on “responsibility”.



Activities & Strategies:

Media specialist will read the book aloud and using Kagan strategies have students respond to questions.

Students will fill out a Bubble Map on “responsibility”.

Kindergarten students will create the map with the media specialist in whole group.

First and second grade will fill out the map individually.



Assessment:

Bubble maps will be checked for completion.
