Programming

Learning objectives: Children recognise that their actions have an effect.

30-50 months:

  • Knows how to operate simple equipment e.g. turns on CD player and uses remote control.

  • Shows skill in making toys work by pressing parts or lifting flaps to achieve effects such as sound, movements or new images.

40-60 months:

  • Uses ICT hardware to interact with age-appropriate computer software.

Early Learning Goal: Children recognise that a range of technology is used in places such as homes and schools. They select and use technology for particular purposes.

Handling Data

Learning objectives:

  • UW T 30-50: Knows how to operate simple equipment, e.g. turns on CD player and uses remote control

  • UW T 30-50: Shows an interest in technological toys with knobs or pulleys, or real objects such as cameras or mobile phones.

  • ELG: They select and use technology for particular purposes

Activities:

  • Use any recordable device (camera, IPad) to take photos of a fruit tasting activity.

  • Use Talking Tins or any voice recorder to record a sentence.

  • Use video camera/iPad/Flip Cam/Apps to record the children performing their innovated story – this can then be shared with parents.

  • Create representations of fruit/characters - Purple Mash, 2 Paint, paint, 2 DIY APP, Doodle Buddy APP.

  • Use CBeebies explore traditional African dance and music – Various equipment can be used to record the children’s performances.

  • Explore keyboard to type name or title for a picture.

  • (A class blog is used to share learning experiences)

Learning objectives:

  • UW T 30-50: Knows that information can be retrieved from computers
  • UW T 40-60+: Uses ICT hardware to interact with age-appropriate computer software.


  • Completes a simple program on a computer.

  • ELG: They select and use technology for particular purposes


Activities:


  • Teacher Initiated – Developing mouse skills sorting fruit ‘ Handa’s Basket’.

  • Find ‘All about Animals’ in Mr Haughton’s Infant Encyclopaedia
