This class is an introduction to Shakespeare and his life.  We will be doing exciting activities developed around the time of Shakespeare.  At the end of the semester, children will participate in a Shakespeare drama.

Materials to bring: folder, pencil, and lots of energy

Jr. High (6th-8th grades) 1st Period
Journalism

Instructors: Christy Clements & Amy Cody


Calling all reporters! Come produce the co-op newspaper with us! You’ll learn how to work with other students to come up with ideas for articles, interview individuals, write articles, take photographs, edit, arrange, print and distribute the paper. Be prepared to have lots of fun!
Materials to bring: pencil, pen, and a three ring binder with loose-leaf paper and pockets/folder to keep papers in.
Cost: $20

Jr. High (6th -8th grades) 2nd Period
Hands on Science

Instructor: Anitta Charlson


We will be doing a different experiment each week to reinforce a general science lesson.
Materials to bring: 2 plastic tablecloths, 3 ring binder with plain paper, highlighter (any color), goggles, apron, small tape measure, index cards, tape, and any fuji film canisters that you may have at home!
Homework: The instructor will ask the children to bring in common household items for experiments each week.
Cost: $20

Jr. High (6th-8th grades) 3rd Period

Arts & Crafts

Instructors: Jenessa Stach & Stacy Landers

During this semester your child will be enlightened as we study many different artists and their masterpieces. We will do activities based on these artists’ works. Our activities will be varied from painting and drawing to sculpting and crafts. 

Materials to bring: pad of drawing paper, construction paper, colored pencils, drawing pencils, watercolor paints and your creative minds!!!

Sr. High (9th-12th grades) 1st Period

Starter Lab

Instructor: Anitta Charlson

We will be doing a variety of science labs from Apologia and others.

Sr. High (9th-12th grades) 2nd Period

Algebra I

Instructor: Andrea Clark

Are you confused with Algebra and need extra help and review?  Or, do you love it and want to get ahead?  Using Coolmath Algebra, we will do just that!  We will work through and review Polynomials, Exponents, radicals, solving equations and inequalities and more, all while having fun!


Materials to bring: notebook with loose leaf paper and lots of pencils

Sr. High (9th-12th grades) 3rd Period
Study Hall
Understanding the work load that this age group has, we do not offer a 3rd period High School class.  Due to sport practice times and classes at other institutions, many of our high school students need to leave at this time.  If your child does not need to leave for other activities, they may use this class period as a study hall.

Instructor Bios:
Joy Allen and her husband, Eric, have been married for 12 years. They are the proud parents of; Ben (7), Jake (3), and the newest Allen scheduled to arrive in March.  They've been homeschooling for 2.5 years.  Eric is a Structural Engineer at Mercer Design Group here in Weaverville and Joy has a background teaching elementary education and working as a real estate agent.   Their family attends North Point Baptist Church.
Kristi Bailey and her husband, Chad, have been married for almost 11 years. They have four children ranging in age from 8 years old to 18 months. They are in their fifth year of homeschooling.  Kristi enjoys leading Kids Worship and working with the children at her church.  She has her master's degree in Special Education.
Amanda Blanton and her husband, Kevin, have been married for 7 years. They have two children: Joshua (5) and Nathan (2). Amanda has worked with children in Sunday school and children's church for over 10 years. She also worked as a preschool teacher for 4 years. Amanda and her family attend North Point Baptist Church where she teaches the 2 year old Sunday School class and helps in the Awana program.

Heather Bullman and her husband, Brian, have been married for 11 years. They have 3 children: Hannah (6), Zachary (4), and Jackson (5 months).  They are in their second year of homeschooling and love it. Previously, she worked in a nursing home and then in an adult day center.  Originally her degree was going to be teaching so she has also worked with children doing afterschool programs, volunteering in schools, tutoring etc. Heather feels very blessed to be given the opportunity to homeschool her children and for being able to meet with many other homeschooling families at coop.


Amy Castellani and her husband, Chris, have been married for 9 years. They have 3 children: John (7), Joshua (6), and Henry (8 months). They have been homeschooling for four years. Amy is a registered nurse and is originally from Long Island, NY. They have lived in Asheville for 6 years, and attend Woodland Hills Church in North Asheville. We have enjoyed teaching and participating in North Point Baptist Homeschool Ministry and feel it is a blessing every day that God has provided for us to continue our homeschooling journey.

 

Anitta Charlson and her husband, Dan, have been married for 12 years. They have 3 children: Dalton (7), Lexie (5) and Jessica (2). They have been home schooling for two years. They attend Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Asheville where Anitta has taught Sunday School and VBS. Anitta received a degree in Photography from Randolph Community College in Asheboro, NC. She worked for many years as a photojournalist for newspapers in Raleigh, Durham and Atlanta before having children. Besides taking pictures of the kids, Anitta loves doing science experiments with the kids that range from making robots to experiments that can be eaten!

Andrea Clark and her husband, Adam, have been married for 7 years and have been blessed with four beautiful children: Brayden (8), Esaias (6), Hosanna (4), and Jack (2). This is their fourth year of traditional homeschooling, however, she began teaching her oldest at age 3, so this is her 6th year of educating. Andrea has worked in a variety of settings with children ages, birth through High School including: teaching Sunday School, Awana and pre-school. Andrea and Adam are currently leading a 4-H club for Madison County, and attend Land of the Sky Cowboy Church in Marshall.  Andrea is excited about working with your children this semester.

Christy Clements and her husband, Brent, have been married 12 years and are the proud parents of Rebecca (5) and Heather (2). Christy obtained a Bachelors Degree in Accounting with Minors in General Music and Music Education from Mars Hill College. She has experience in the real estate industry and worked as the purchasing manager for a large manufacturing facility prior to the Lord blessing her with the opportunity to become a stay-at-home mom. She and her family are members of North Point Baptist Church where she plays in the orchestra, participates in ladies bible study, co-teaches the K-2nd children’s choir and enjoys teaching VBS. This is our 1st year of homeschooling and Christy looks forward to helping your child have fun learning!

Instructor Bios Continued:
Amy Cody and her husband, Ryan, have been married for 7 years. They are in their first year of homeschooling. They have two sons, Emory (6) and Eli (2 1/2) and a new addition coming to the family in April 2010. Amy has a Bachelor's degree in English Communication from Montreat College. She teaches Sunday school and Vacation Bible School at Laurel Branch Baptist Church where they are members.
Monica Cook and her husband, Lyndon, have been married for 12 years.  For the past three years, they have lived in Asheville and have homeschooled with the North Point Baptist Homeschool Ministry. They have three beautiful children: Morgan (8), Kylie (5), and Tristan (3).  Monica has a BSBA from Concord College in Athens, WV.  Their family attends North Point Baptist Church. 

Tonya Harwood and her husband, Jonathan, have been married for 11 years.  They have three children, Rachel (7), Jordan (5), and Jacob (5). They are in their third year of homeschooling.  She has a BA in visual arts and enjoys painting and reading. She has several years teaching experience including Art Space Charter School, Academy of Asheville, and Asheville Art Museum.

Stacy Landers and her husband, Joe, have been married for 13 years. They have three children; a middle schooler and twins in the 3rd grade. I have been homeschooling for one year now. We moved here from Colorado in 2009 and are members at NPBC. Stacy has a bachelors degree in nursing and a background in early childhood education. She currently leads the preschool choir at NPBC. They have been involved with the co-op for one semester and are thoroughly enjoying it.
Corinne Ptak and her husband, Preston, have been married for 14 years. They have three children: Rebekah (9), Braeden (4), and Nikolas (2). They have been homeschooling for six years. Corinne has a degree in Human Services and Early Childhood Education. She and her family are members of North Point Baptist Church where she sings in choir, participates in ladies bible study, is a part of the ladies ministry team, and leads M.O.M.S. (Moments Of Mentoring Side by side).
Susannah Richmond and her husband, Dave, have been married for 8 years. They have three children, ages 5 and infant twins.  I grew up in SW Virginia where I was home schooled in the "early days" of home schooling.  Dave and I moved to Savannah, GA shortly after we got married, and then moved to this area about three years ago.
Carlie Stach is 14 year old homeschooled student presently in the 8th grade. She enjoys dance, music, reading, art, crafts, sewing, cooking, etc. She is looking forward to helping in the Prairie Primer class.

Jenessa Stach and her husband, Glenn, have been married 13 years. They have been homeschooling for nine years. They have five children, Carlie (13), Savannah (9), Gabriel (6), Taylor (4), and Emmaline (2). This is their fifth year participating in the North Point co-op. Jenessa has worked in a variety of settings with children including teaching Sunday School, preschool, and directing her own child care center. Jenessa has a degree in Early Childhood Education, and is looking forward to working with your children this semester.

Leigh Ann Thibodeau and her husband, Brian, have been married 21 years and they are in their fourth year of homeschooling. They have two daughters, Bailey (12), and Brooke (9). Leigh Anne has an Associates Degree in Dental Hygiene. She has taught Sunday School and VBS. They are members of North Point Baptist Church and serve as the liaison between the homeschool ministry and the church.
Joanne Warren and her husband, Jon, have been married for 11 years.  They have three children, ages 8, 6 and 1.  They have been homeschooling for five years. Joanne loves science and experimenting with household items. She also decorates cakes and enjoys baking from home. Joanne has helped with Vacation Bible School with a local church and helped with AWANA. She attends Asheville Gospel Chapel where she has been for 28 years.

I/We realize that NPBHM services are provided on an all volunteer basis, and understand that I am expected to volunteer or assist with the organization of at least one activity or function. I/We understand and agree that neither NPBHM nor any of its members will be held accountable for accidents or injuries involving our children which may occur during NPBHM field trips, programs, and/or activities.

Parent Agreement
 I understand that North Point Workshops are supplemental to what is being taught in the home and

are meant for enrichment purposes only. As the parent, I also realize that these workshops will not

complete any curriculum, only enhance them. The instructors do not teach the entire subject matter,

but are only enriching and assisting my instruction at home.


 I understand that North Point Workshops do not keep permanent records or assign grades.
 I understand that the North Point Workshops does not give credit toward high school graduation

requirements, although parents may use class time toward fulfilling some requirements in a given

subject, according to the parent’s own discretion.

 I understand that the North Point Workshops does not give legal protection or legal assistance.

Also, North Point Workshops is not obligated to testify regarding your home school’s validity,

authenticity, or effectiveness to legal authorities or in court.

 I agree that my children will strive to regularly attend all classes for which I have registered them.

They will arrive on time AT 12:30 P.M. and fully participate in the class by completing any homework

assignments and engaging with other students and the instructor during class time.
 I understand and agree that I must remain in the building the entire time and be responsible for my

children regardless of their age whenever they are participating in classes.


 I understand and agree that North Point’s Leadership Team, instructors or North Point Baptist

Church will at no time be responsible for mishaps, injuries, or accidents that may occur during the

areas of North Point Workshops.

Student Agreement

All students enrolled in North Point Workshops must adhere to the following guidelines:

 Be honest, courteous and patient with everyone; treating others with Christ-like kindness.
 Respect and obey those in authority.
 Be on time for Workshops. (This means arriving at 12:30 P.M)
 Use respectful and polite language.
 Remain with their class unless they obtain permission from their teacher to leave and be in

the appropriate areas at all times; not roaming the building or property.


 Eat only during the appropriate times and places.
 Do no bring electronic devices of any kind to Workshops (music, game boys, etc.). Do not bring weapons,

including pocketknives, on the property.


 Complete homework (if any) given by your instructor and fully participate in class by engaging with other

students and the instructor during class time.


 Contact the instructor when you are absent.
 Reimburse for any damage done by the student to the facility or equipment.
 Help my family complete our required cleaning duties at Workshops before playing outside and prior to leaving each week.
Dress and Conduct Code: Be mindful that hemlines, necklines and conduct i.e. physical aggression/affection and language, should be appropriate for church activities. Shoes are required. So as to esteem others more highly than your self, prefer modesty over making a “statement” with your clothing, make-up and jewelry. (There are to be no tank tops, crop tops, halter tops, spaghetti straps, exposed backs, short shorts/dresses or pants that expose undergarments or mid-drift or are very tight fitting. Shirts with messages must not be offensive.)
