So don’t forget to make your vote count.

 Welcome to the Community Bulletin. Included is information that I believe is of interest and benefit to all of our community. This is a monthly mailing, dedicated to community news and views. If you wish to receive it on an ongoing basis, or know someone who wants to receive it, please call or e-mail me.  The Women of Kingdom Baptist Church will celebrate GEMS Fellowship Day. The Child Care Council of Westchester will hold its Champions of Child Care Reception at Reid Castle on the grounds of Manhattanville College in Purchase. They will honor the Westchester County Board of Legislators, Manhattanville College, Pepsi Bottling Group, Eileen Fisher, Inc., and Lottie Harris, former Executive Director of the Child Care Council of Westchester, for their outstanding contributions to the advancement of quality early care and education for the children of working parents in Westchester County. There will be a Playhouse Auction. All proceeds from the reception will go to our Sally Ziegler Scholarship Fund for working families who cannot afford quality care. The community organization who attends the 2 introductory CBA meetings in August felt that all community residents and CBOs who are interested in the future of downtime Yonkers should become involved in a CBA process with the City and the designated developers of downtime Yonkers. Workshops have been created to obtain ideas on what community residents and CBOs think the developer should do to help downtown Yonkers.

CBA Workshop # 3

The purpose of workshop #3 is to finalize the CBO

report and select people to represents the community

and CBOs in negotiations with the developer.

The Board of Directors and Policy Council of Westchester Community Opportunity Program will host their Annual Dinner Dance celebrating their 41st anniversary. This celebration will take place on 60 Hale Avenue in White Plains. Cocktail Hour will be at 6:30 PM while Dinner is at 7:30 PM. The cost of a person is $100.00 ($60.00 of this amount is tax-deductible contribution).

What’s Shrimp Got to Do With It?

We never tire of talking about fish, but we’ll put them aside for an evening to put our beloved shrimp in the spotlight. Dr. Kathy Nolan returns to Beczak to report on her latest findings from studying New York shrimp, including Hudson River specimens collected by Beczak educators and students. Come learn more about these important Hudson River species, including their role in indicating water quality. Dr. Nolan’s shrimp research and interests includes the reproductive behav­ior, biometrics and genetic differences between species.
