Iowa’s Oldest Rustic Venue

Built in 1838 using stone taken from a nearby quarry, the Palmer Stable originally was used as a mill, but nearby residents complained about the noise it created so the building was converted to a livery stable.

We are known for our “You get the Keys” and “No shut down times.”

So come decorate Friday morning with family and friends, host your rehearsal dinner Friday night, then the bride and bridesmaid’s sleepover in the 1,250 sf Hay Loft Suite. Saturday morning the Hair and Makeup people come to the Loft! You have all morning to prepare for the Ceremony and then Reception with no shut down time!!! Sunday morning cater a brunch and gift opening.

The Hay Loft Suite Package

Friday, Saturday and Sunday 3 Days & 2 Nights

“Most Popular” 24/7 Access 9am Friday to 5pm Sunday



  1. Friday 8am access to set up, and hold your rehearsal dinner here, then the

bride and bridesmaids have a sleepover in the Hay Loft Suite.


  1. Saturday morning the bride & bridesmaids get ready in the Hay Loft…no rushing

all over town.



  1. Have your ceremony inside or outdoors on the terrace or under a tent, or we

also, have other sites available Lake McBride, Sutliff Bridge or an open field.


  1. You can literally “Dance all night” with no shut down time to clean up

you have the keys!


  1. Sunday, you can wake up in the Hay Loft and have a brunch and gift opening

with an easy final cleanup and check out by 5pm.

The One-day Ceremony and Reception



Friday: Have access to The Stable at 8am to 12 midnight.

Saturday: Have access to The Stable at 8am to 12 midnight.

Sunday: Have access to The Stable at 12 noon to12 midnight.
Open Vendors and Catering Policy where you are free to pick and choose, or use our Preferred Vendor list of professionals.

Buy and bring in your own beer, wine and alcohol.

The Hay Loft Suite

The Palmer House Stable has an authentic restored fully furnished Loft Condominium with a direct stairway to the main level and lower level event space which is ideal for a Ceremony entrance. The LOFT is fully furnished with all the essentials for a weekend of luxury living which includes an open 2 story loft master bedroom overlooking the great room and kitchen area with a tiled soaking tub and sky lights. An additional ¾ bath on the main level with washer/dryer and all the appliances, dishes, linens, TV, and WI-FI, in 1250 sf.

  • 3- Large Galvanized metal farm tubs on stands with wheels for can beer, pop, and water bottles.

  • 1- Smaller Galvanized metal farm tub on a stand with wheels for wine bottles.

  • 2 Commercial Patio Heaters.

  • Wireless multi-level wireless I pod/I phone app sound system with microphone.

  • Complimentary Wi Fi.

  • Large steel wood burning fire pit with Red Adirondack chairs, we will provide the wood, set up and starting of the fire.

  • Terrace 30’ X 60’ with string lights, burlap curtains for privacy if a tent is not used.

  • All paper products and cleaners, brooms and dust pans, hand soap, garbage cans and plastic garbage bags. Step ladders, hand tools, and fasteners for decorating and set up.

  • Complimentary set up assistance and seating arrangement consulting.
