About The Chris Tarry Group

"One of the best jazz groups working today!" - All About Jazz
The Chris Tarry Group, led by famed Canadian electric bassist, Chris Tarry, is based in New York City and has been wowing audiences with its original brand of modern electric jazz since the band's inception in 1994. With his eight multi Juno award-winning solo albums, Chris Tarry has become widely regarded as one of Canada’s most esteemed bandleaders, composers, and bass players. Always eclectic, always soulful, and always memorable, The Chris Tarry Group is one of the best, most cutting-edge jazz groups on the scene today.
Chris's recent work includes his 2008 Juno award winning CD Almost Certainly Dreaming, and his latest album, Rest of the Story, which was just nominated for two 2012 Juno awards for best contemporary jazz album and best CD packaging. Rest of the Story is a unique book/album combination of Chris's short fiction and music rolled into one (he is also an internationally acclaimed fiction writer.) Rest of the Story is being praised as one of the best, most ambitious and original jazz releases in recent memory.
About The New Book/Album: Rest of the Story
"Rest of the Story is one of the most strikingly original packages ever to pair written word with written note." - Bass Player Magazine

Rest of the Story is a unique book/album combination featuring Chris Tarry’s music and short fiction. Go grab it, we’ll wait. We’d like to tell you a bit about it and it’s best if you’re holding one in your hand. Oh, you’re back. Terrific. What’s that? No, there is not a problem with your book, the CD sized hole cut through the middle is on purpose. In fact, it’s been winning us many highly prestigious design awards the world over. We like to think of the whole thing as a jazz album first, and a book second. Kind of like a CD with super-crazy liner notes.

Here’s how it works: there are four short stories written by Chris, the last one entitled The Hole on page 33. When finished reading The Hole, you turn the page, fall into an actual hole, and the music becomes, quite literally, the Rest of the Story. The table of contents is the key, four short stories with page numbers, followed by nine tracks with timings. We hope you enjoy this crazy little project. We had fun making it, and think that it is a wonderful and beautiful thing. And now some more information on Chris:
