David is a medical graduate of the Royal Melbourne Hospital Clinical School at The University of Melbourne. The Faculty of Public Health (of the Royal College of Physicians, UK) is the relevant professional qualification for community physicians in the UK. Fellowship recognises further substantial contribution to Public Health, within the Faculty beyond that recognised for Membership.

The MA (prelim) was a one year full-time course offered to graduates by the Department of Sociology at LaTrobe University, the successful completion of which establishes eligibility to undertake a MA in sociology.
