Project Read 9:00-10:30 Aug. 26-29

Monday---Unit 2 Lesson 2 Skill: j, l, p

Teacher will display all the consonants previously introduced: t, s, m, b, c, f, r, h, n and tell students that these letters capture consonant sounds. Students practice naming the letters and clipping /u/ on the end of sounds if needed.

Teacher will display the letter j, name the letter, and provide the sound. Students will skywrite the letter j 3 times and provide sound.

Teacher will write the word jam up. Students will finger blend and sweep sounds to read the word. Teacher will provide the following sentences to provide meaning: I love strawberry jam on my toast. The car is in a traffic jam.

Teacher will write the word job up. Students will finger blend and sweep sounds to read the word. Teacher will provide the following sentence to provide meaning: My job is to teach.

Spell Tabs: Students will head a piece of paper with Spell Tabs at the top of the page, name and date underneath. Teacher will dictate the following words and throw the words out to students. Students will catch each word, say the word, finger blend the word, and write the word. After all words have been written, spellings of these words will be checked and corrected together.

Afterward, on the same paper, students will complete sentence dictation. Teacher will dictate the following sentence. Students will repeat the sentence, count the number of words, finger blend each phonetic word as they write the sentence. Class will discuss remembering to put a stop sign (period) at the end of the telling sentence. After work on the sentence, class will discuss and check/correct their work.

The cat has jam.

Teacher will place the story, “Jam” under the document camera. Students will practice reading and discussing the story. This story will be sent home for reading homework.

Tuesday---Unit 2 Lesson 2 Skill: j, l, p

Class will review letter j from yesterday by skywriting and providing sound 3 times. Also, teacher will write the following words up and students will finger blend and tap and sweep to read the words: jam, job, jab.

Teacher will place the story, “Jam” under the document camera. Students will practice reading and discussing the story. Then students will complete a short comprehension quiz over the story. Teacher will leave the story up under the document camera for students to use as they complete the quiz. After teacher takes up quizzes, students will use the story to discuss what answers that they should have marked on the quiz.

Teacher will write the letter p, provide letter name and sound. Students will practice skywriting and providing sound for the letter p 3 times.

Teacher will write the word pan up and students will practice reading the word by finger blending and tap and sweep. Teacher will provide the following sentence for word meaning: The pan is hot.

Teacher will write up these other words and students will practice reading by also using finger blending and tap and sweep. Teacher will provide the following sentences to also provide word meaning.

pat Ann can pat the cat.

nap The cat had a nap on the mat.

cap Pat has a tan baseball cap. Put the cap back on the bottle.

pan Sam has a pan of ham.

rap Mat and Pam are rap singers. I hear a rap at the door.

Students will catch each word, say the word, finger blend, and write each word. After word work has been done, class will discuss and check/correct their work.

Sentence Dictation: Teacher will dictate the following sentence. Students will repeat the sentence, count the number of words, finger blend each phonetic word as they write the sentence on the same paper as the Spell Tab words. Discuss at the end of the sentence, there should be a stop sign. This should be a period because this sentence just tells you something and is a telling sentence. After sentence dictation work, students will discuss and check/correct their work on the sentence.

Pam has a nap.

Teacher will pass out worksheet 2-25. Students will name the picture words and complete each word by finger blending each word and filling in the missing letters in each word name (ham, rat, ham, man, map, fan, cat, bat, pan). After work on this page, students will discuss, check and correct their work on this page.

Teacher will place the story, “At Bat” under the document camera. Students will practice reading and discussing the story. This story will be sent home for reading homework.

Wednesday---Unit 2 Lesson 2 Skill: j, l, p

Class will review letters j and p from the past 2 days by skywriting and providing sound 3 times for each letter. Also, teacher will write the following words up and students will finger blend and tap and sweep to read the words: jam, job, jab, pan, pat, nap, cap, pan, rap.

Teacher will place the story, “At Bat” under the document camera. Students will practice reading and discussing the story. Then students will complete a short comprehension quiz over the story. Teacher will leave the story up under the document camera for students to use as they complete the quiz. After teacher takes up quizzes, students will use the story to discuss what answers that they should have marked on the quiz.

Teacher will write the following consonants up on ActivInspire and students will skywrite, name each letter, and provide sound. (t,s,m,b,c,f,r,h,j,n,p).

Teacher will write the letter l up, provide letter name and sound. Students will practice skywriting the letter l and provide sound 3 times.

Teacher will write the following words up. Students will practice reading the words by using finger blending and tap and sweep. Teacher will provide the following sentences for word meaning also.

lap The cat sat in Al’s lap. The kitten laps up the milk with his tongue.

pal A pal is a friend.

Teacher will place the story, “Al, Cal, and Sal” under the document camera. Students will practice reading and discussing the story. This story will be sent home for reading homework.

Teacher will also place worksheet 2-27 under the document camera. Students will practice reading and discussing the sentences. This worksheet will also be sent home for reading homework.

Thursday---Unit 2 Lesson 2 Skill: j, p, l

9:00-9:45---Lexia Reading on computers in computer room across from classroom. Students’ usernames and password cards are in small container by computer close to the classroom door.

Project Read 9:45-10:30

Teacher will pass out dry erase boards. Teacher will dictate the following letter sounds and students will identify each letter matching the sound by writing the letters on their board: t, s, m, b, c, f, r, h, j, n, p, l.

Class will further review these letters by rereading words on worksheet 2-25 by using picture clues and by finger blending or tap and sweep as needed.

Teacher will place worksheet 2-27 under the document camera and students will practice reading and discussing the sentences containing letters j, p, l.

Teacher will place worksheet 2-29 under the document camera. Students will practice reading the words by finger blending or tap and sweep as needed, and also practice reading and discussing the sentences on the page. This worksheet will be sent home for reading homework.

Teacher will place the story, “Al, Cal, and Sal” under the document camera. Students will practice reading and discussing the story. Then students will complete a short comprehension quiz over the story. Teacher will leave the story up under the document camera for students to use as they complete the quiz. After teacher takes up quizzes, students will use the story to discuss what answers that they should have marked on the quiz.


Students will complete a spelling assessment over the following words: jam, job, pan, pat, nap, cap, pan, rap, lap, pal.
