Monday Project Read and Spelling---Units 24 Vowel Teams review and introduction to Unit 25 ea (short e)

Class will review Unit 24 with the following worksheets:

Worksheet 24-3—all long vowel teams skywriting each

-ie—worksheet 24-7

ai—worksheet 24-15

-ay—worksheet 24-19

ai and –ay---worksheet 24-25, 26

oa—worksheet 24-31

-ow—worksheet 24-33

-oe—worksheet 24-35

Arm tap and sweep red words whom and does 5 times each and review all red words learned thus far from red word pack.

Teacher will place the story, “A Happy Valley” (ie, -ey) under the document camera and students will practice reading and discussing the story. This story will be sent home for reading homework.

Unit 25 ea (short e)

Teacher will display the vowel team ea and tell students that this is a vowel team that gives the short e sound. In this lesson, you will learn that ea can also represent the short e sound.


  1. ea is the only vowel team that represents a short vowel sound.
  2. There is no way of knowing if the ea team is representing the long or short sound. Try long sound first.

Examples: bread, heavy (divide this word into syllables)

Teacher will place worksheet 25-3 under the document camera. Students will practice reading ea words giving the short e sound for the ea spelling.

Class will observe and discuss spelling words for this week, and if time permits start work on spelling homework.

Class will review and skywrite all vowel teams on worksheet 24-3 and review all long vowel teams with the following worksheets:

Teacher will place the story, “Hot Bread For Heather” under the document camera. Students will practice reading and discussing the story. This story will be sent home for reading homework.

Class will review spelling words and if time permits, start on spelling homework.

Oral reading check will be done on the following worksheets: 24-7; 24-15; 24-19; 24-25, 26; 24-31; 24-33; 24-35; 24-37, 38; 24-43; 24-45; 24-47; 24-49, 50; 25-3; 25-5, 6; 25-7, 8.



Students will complete Units 24-25 Project Read assessment.

Students will complete spelling assessment over the following words: field, thief, valley, turkey, whom, does, head, weather, ready, healthy.
