Monday---Unit 11 Lesson 2: Skill: wh and red word are

Teacher will remind students that there are 4 h-brothers and will display them (ch, wh, th, sh) and talk about why they are h-brothers. There is an h at the end of each spelling.

Class will review Unit 11 Lesson 1 skill ch by discussing that the ch has his toy train that makes the /ch/ sound. Students will skywrite ch 3 times.

Teacher will also place worksheet 11-5 under the document camera and students will practice finger blending and swooping sounds to read the words and sentences.

Teacher will place the story, “Bill’s Ax” under the document camera and students will practice reading and discussing the story. Teacher will leave the story under the document camera while students complete a short quiz over the story. Teacher will take up the quizzes and students will discuss what answers that they should have marked on the quiz.

Unit 11 Lesson 2: Skill: wh

Teacher will display the wh brother’s picture and tell students that this is wh. Teacher will tell students to observe picture—wh is dressed in a policeman’s uniform because he wants to be a traffic policeman when he grows up. He holds his hand up and tries to whistle to stop traffic and the whistle goes /wh/. Students practice the sound. Wh says /hw/. Air is felt when hand is held in front of mouth.

Teacher will model for students how to skywrite wh. Students will skywrite wh 3 times.

Teacher will write the following words up and students will practice finger blending and sweeping sounds to read the wh words: which, whip, whiff, whiz.

Teacher will place worksheet 11-13 under the document camera and students will practice reading the sentences containing wh words. Students may need to use finger blending or sweeping of sounds to read the words. This worksheet will be sent home for reading homework.

Teacher will flash all red words taught in previous units while students read and then teacher will show students the red word are and tell students that it is a red word because it is not spelled like it sounds, that you can not sound this word out. Teacher will model for students how to arm tap the word and students will practice arm tapping and sweeping the word 5 times.

Teacher will place the story, “What Are” under the document camera. Students will practice reading and discussing the story. This story will also be sent home for reading homework.
Tuesday---Unit 11 Lesson 2 Skill: wh and red words are

Sentence Dictation: Students will be given a sheet of notebook paper. Teacher will model for students how to set the paper up for dictation. Dictation will be placed on the top line and name and date on the second line. Teacher will dictate the following sentences one at a time (what the class period has time for). Students will repeat the sentence, count the number of words and finger blend or arm tap each word before writing each word in the sentence. When finished, class will check their work together.

Thursday---Unit 11 Lesson 3: Skill: th

Class will review Unit 11 Lesson 1 ch by observing the ch brother picture with his toy train, skywriting ch 3 times, and by rereading worksheet 11-5.

Class will review Unit 11 Lesson 2 wh and red word are by observing the wh brother picture with his whistle, skywriting wh 3 times, rereading worksheet 11-13, and by reading all red words, including the word are.

Class will review both ch and wh by rereading and discussing the story, “A Quiz,” which the teacher will place under the document camera. Teacher will leave the story under the document camera while students complete a quiz over the story. Teacher will take the quizzes up and then students will discuss what answers that they should have marked on the quiz.

Unit 11 Lesson 3: skill th

Teacher will display the th brother picture and discuss that th, ch, and wh are 3 of the 4 h-brothers. These combinations are called h brothers because each spelling ends with an h.

Th is the youngest brother. This brother has a very naughty habit. He sticks out his tongue and makes a sound/th/ like in the word thin. Teacher will write the word up and students will practice finger blending and sweeping sounds in the word to read the word. Teacher will also write the word math up and have students finger blend and sweep sounds to read the word.

Teacher will model for students how to skywrite th. Students will then skywrite th 3 times.

Teacher will place worksheet 11-27 under the document camera. Students will practice finger blending and sweeping sounds to read the words and sentences containing those words on the sheet. This worksheet will be sent home for reading homework.

Friday---Unit 11 Lesson 3 Skill: th

Class will review Unit 11 Lesson 1 ch by observing the ch brother picture with his toy train, skywriting ch 3 times, and by rereading worksheet 11-5.

Class will review Unit 11 Lesson 2 wh and red word are by observing the wh brother picture with his whistle, skywriting wh 3 times, rereading worksheet 11-13, and by reading all red words, including the word are.

Class will review Unit 11 Lesson 3 th by observing the th brother picture with his tongue stuck out, skywriting th 3 times, and rereading worksheet 11-27.

Teacher will place the story, “Math” under the document camera. Students will practice reading and discussing the story. This story will be sent home for reading homework.

Spell Tabs: Students will be given a sheet of notebook paper and will head the paper with Spell Tabs written on the top line and name and date on the second line.



Teacher will dictate the following words or as many as class time will allow one at a time and students will repeat the word, finger blend the word, and write the word. Class will check their work together and make corrections if needed.
