Review from Annual Celebration:

  • We will seek to be transformed to be like Jesus for the sake of others.

  • So, we will listen expectantly, pray to have redemptive conversations, and then welcome our unchurched friends well when they come.

Review from last week:

If we are to be like Jesus, we will have his heart for those who are harassed and helpless.

This month’s text:

Matthew 9:35–38 (NIV84)

35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
The Four Conversations (that God wants us to have with the harassed and helpless)
Memory Hook What we are really saying? What we must pray for
1. Eye to Eye I ______ you (you are a person of worth). __________________
Psalm 139:1–4 (NIV84)

1 O Lord, you have searched me and you know me. 2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. 3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. 4 Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O Lord.

2. Hand to Hand I _________ you (and want spend time with you). __________________
Matthew 11:19 (NIV84)

19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and “sinners.” ’ But wisdom is proved right by her actions.”

3. Heart to Heart You are not __________! __________________
Galatians 6:2 (NIV84)

2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

4. Soul to Soul __________ is the answer to your deepest need __________________
Ephesians 2:8–10 (NIV84)

8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
2 Corinthians 4:4 (NIV84)

4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
