Vocabulary: nocturnal, mammal, echolocation, roost, nectar, ecosystem. Before reading the magazine students & teacher will do either a K-W-L chart on bats or (Bats Can, Have, Are) chart.

Writing Center: Write 1 thing you learned about bats..

Library: books about birds & bats.

ABC Center: Rhyming words sheet. Then practice making the words with magnets or write them in rainbow colors.

Kotner: Review CVC words by using the sound boxes & guided reading. (Red Group) Green and Yellow groups: guided reading & writing in CVC words on white boards.


Kincaid: My Itsy, Bitsy Bat Book-Will read it together & make it together.

Story: Let’s Find Out: Bats Hang Down, Birds Stand Up (Scholastic Magazine)

Vocabulary: nocturnal, mammal, habitat, enemies.

Review Bats Hang Down, Birds Stand Up quickly. Then do a big Venn Diagram with whole class on Bats and Birds Together. (Save the Venn Diagram to use later this week.)

ABC: Upper & lowercase letter page. Students draw a letter tile or letter card & match it to the uppercase or lowercase letter page.

Libraray: Bats & Birds books & level readers.

Computers: Slide slow on bats. Then they can do Bb page for bats.

Kincaid:Do acrostic poem. Brainstorm some words that can go with (B), (A), (T), & (S). Examples would be beautiful & bats. For A it could be are, always, active. For T it could be tiny, terrific & for S it could be scary, super cool, sensational. Here might be my poem:
