The Hero’s Journey in Your Life Project

Due: Monday, February 14


Select one of the following projects to demonstrate the place of the Hero’s Journey and Archetypes and in your life. The project is due Monday, February 14 and will be presented in a Gallery Walk. The project must show effort and creativity and demonstrate a THOROUGH UNDERSTANDING of the steps in the Hero’s Journey and the role of various archetypes.
Comic Strip

Create a comic strip to tell a story from your life that models the pattern of the Hero’s Journey. You will be graded on the following:

- At least 10 panels in the comic strip

- Inclusion of all steps of the Hero’s Journey

- Representation of at least 3 archetypes

- On a separate sheet or on the back, identify the parts of your story that

portrays the Hero’s Journey and which archetypes people are representing.

- Effort and creativity


Mini Movie

Create a mini film (think back to The Odyssey movie and Field of Dreams) to tell a story from your life that models the pattern of the Hero’s Journey. You will be graded on the following:

- At least 15 minutes in length

- Inclusion of all steps of the Hero’s Journey

- Representation of at least 3 archetypes

- On a separate sheet of paper, identify the parts of your story that

portrays the Hero’s Journey and which archetypes people are representing.

- Effort and creativity

Children’s Book

Create a children’s book to tell a story from your life that models the pattern of the Hero’s Journey. You will be graded on the following:

- At least 10 pages (this includes front and back) in length

- At least 5 illustrations (go beyond just copying and pasting pictures)

- Inclusion of all steps of the Hero’s Journey

- Representation of at least 3 archetypes

- On a separate sheet or on the back, identify the parts of your story that

portrays the Hero’s Journey and which archetypes people are representing.

- Effort and creativity

A Journey Journal

Create a journal to tell a story from your life that models the pattern of the Hero’s Journey. You will be graded on the following:

- At least 10 pages in length (include dates to make it a true journal)

- Inclusion of all steps of the Hero’s Journey

- Representation of at least 3 archetypes

- Written in first person (I, me, my)

- On a separate sheet of paper or on the back, identify the parts of your story that

portray the Hero’s Journey and which archetypes people are representing.

Write an original song to tell a story from your life that models the pattern of the Hero’s Journey. You will be graded on the following:

- 3 versus and a chorus

- Inclusion of all steps of the Hero’s Journey

- Representation of at least 3 archetypes

- On a separate sheet of paper or on the back, identify the parts of your story that

portray the Hero’s Journey and which archetypes people are representing.

- Performance

- Effort and Creativity

Artwork (Photo collage, Painting, Sculpture, Graphic Art):

Create an original piece of art to tell a story from your life that models the pattern of the Hero’s Journey. You will be graded on the following:

- Artwork must be done on an 18” x 12” x 8” canvas

- Inclusion of all steps of the Hero’s Journey

- Representation of at least 3 archetypes

- On a separate sheet of paper or on the back, identify the parts of your story that

portray the Hero’s Journey and which archetypes people are representing.

- Effort and Creativity

Guidelines for the Essay:

With each project, you must write a brief essay explaining your project. The following components must be followed in this essay:

- 500 words

- 5 Paragraphs


Introduction

- Link to literature

- Brief explanation of the Hero’s Journey

- Thesis (Even though I am not a typical epic hero, times of my life even

follow the Hero’s Journey with archetypes such as the ______________,

___________________, and _________________).
