Please find the following request for information in relation to Suffolk Police submitted under the Freedom of Information Act. I have reviewed the FoI disclosure log on your website, and cannot find a response given previously that provides the requested data - I believe that request 00007 of 2015 might hold some (but not all) of the requested information, however the document is not accessible via the online link.

Please can you provide me with the following information:

- - How many people does your force currently employ in secondary investigator roles, i.e. those involved in the active investigation of crime after an initial report has been taken/initial information is received?

- - Of those, how many are

1) Detective Constables

2) Police Constables

3) Civilian staff (non-warranted staff or Police staff)

- Within which teams and departments do you currently employ or use civilian investigators? For example; Serious Crime, Volume Crime, Domestic Abuse, Child Abuse Investigation, etc.

- Please provide a breakdown of how many of these investigators of each type there are within each team/department.

- Of the Civilian staff, how many of them are:

a) Employed directly by your force

b) Employed by a third party and/or engaged by a third party agency

Please provide information as to which third party companies provide staff to your force.

Thank you for your assistance. Please provide the information in response

***CLARIFICATION RECEIVED***** 22/01/2016

Thank you for your response. To clarify what I meant, I use the term secondary investigation, because I wanted to avoid any information/statistics relating to people who, for example, take reports over the telephone, but are still broadly classed as investigators.

What I am interested in is:

- The number of Detective Constables

- The number of Police Constables in dedicated investigatory roles/on teams that specifically investigate crimes (rather than those who take reports, which are passed on to others to investigate - exactly as you say - NOT those on response or SNT teams)

- The number of civilian/police staff in dedicated investigatory roles/on teams that specifically investigate crimes or in ‘designated officer’ roles, as defined by the Home Office

- A breakdown by number of what teams/roles those civilian/police staff investigators work on/in

- Whether those civilian/police staff investigators are employed by:

a) Your force

b) An agency

c) A third party company

- If any are employed by a third party company, who that third party company are.

I hope that provides sufficient clarity to my initial request - some forces use the term/role secondary investigator, and some do not!
