SUMMER READING LIST


FOR CHILDREN ENTERING

SUMMER READING - SIXTH GRADE 2012

Required Reading: Read two of the following novels:

Required Assignments:

1. Create a bookmark that represents one of the required novels you read. On the front, put pictures (drawn or cut out) of important characters, items, events, or ideas in the book. Put the title and the author's name on the front too. On the back, put your name.

2. Create a word wall for the second required novel you read. Choose six to ten words that represent important characters, items, events, or ideas in the book. Put the words, the title and the author's name on the front. On the back, put your name. On a separate piece of paper, briefly explain why each word is on the word wall (one or two sentences per word is enough).

Remember to include your name, the title and the author on both assignments. Enjoy!

As part of this collage you may use:

*Pictures from newspapers, magazines, etc. (Nothing from the Internet)

*Your own illustrations

*Found objects (ticket stubs, cards, feathers, etc.)

*Anything else you believe you will enhance the effect of your collage in relation to the images in the novel.

Make sure it is neat and is something which you are proud to display.

2. Compose a character analysis for one of the main characters. In your work, discuss the character’s strengths and weaknesses, the conflicts they face, and whether they act heroically or not. Is he or she dynamic? If so, then why? Make sure you provide textual evidence to support your thinking. The work should be a one page in length, it must be double-spaced, and in twelve point font.
