Autumn Term

It is lovely to welcome the children back to school; I do hope you have all had a fantastic Summer break and a lovely rest! We’ve a busy and exciting Autumn term ahead!

Curriculum Information

Our topic this half term is called ‘Sweet like chocolate’ We will learn where chocolate is grown; how chocolate is made and the importance of chocolate within the Aztec culture. The children will also design and make their own chocolate. An exciting trip to the chocolate story in York has been planned, which you should have received details about.

In maths, we will focus on number. This will include: place value, addition and subtraction. Children will also be provided with Mathletics passwords. Please encourage them to use this at home.

Our Literacy focus will be cross-curricular work on chocolate. We will be reading Roald Dahl’s Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and Philip Pullman’s Clockwork.

How to stay healthy will be our first Science unit. We will look at what makes a balanced diet, how exercise keeps us healthy and the importance of nutrition. We will then move on to changing state.

13th September: Y6 Kingswood meeting (letter to follow)

16th September: Trip to York

23rd September: Year 6 reading meeting

26th September: French day

3rd October to 7th October: Kingswood

Class Reminders

PE kit should be brought in on a Monday and left during the week. Our PE, with a fully qualified sports coach, is on a Tuesday.

Home-learning will be sent on a Tuesday and Thursday.

Spellings will be sent on a Monday with a test on a Friday.

Children should read as often as possible but a minimum of 3 times per week. This should be written into your child’s diary.

Year 5 swimming will start during the second half of the school year and these sessions will be longer than in previous years.
