Charleston Festival (Wednesday 27th September - Sunday 1st October 2017)
Pay: £7.50 per hour
Charleston was the former home of artists Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell and the country retreat of the Bloomsbury group and is today a thriving historic house museum in the Sussex countryside between Lewes and Eastbourne.
The Charleston Small Wonder Festival is a prestigious annual short story festival involving writers, performers, politicians and thinkers – both high profile and up and coming, national and international. The Festival takes place in a marquee in the grounds of Charleston and around 2,000 visitors will attend 21 events over a 5 day period. The programme is available from www.charleston.org.uk
What are we looking for?Car parking and traffic controllers
Car parking and traffic control are vital to the smooth running of the Festival and as the first point of contact for visitors to Charleston, car parkers must be good communicators and great at giving excellent customer service. This role also includes assisting with general site maintenance and site checks and assisting with portering of supplies as required. The work takes place outdoors in all weather and requires good stamina and very calm and friendly disposition.
When and what shifts are available?
The 2017 Charleston Small Wonder Festival takes place from Wednesday 27th September to Sunday 1st October and events run from 4.30pm to 9.30pm Wednesday to Friday and 10am to 9.30pm on Saturday and Sunday.
In the days leading up to the Festival we will require a team of able-bodied individuals to help, set up signs, move supplies, set out furniture and assist with the preparation of the site. This role involves heavy lifting, outdoor work and stamina. We will also require a team to assist with ‘get out’ on 2nd October. This is optional but please state whether you can commit to this too in your application.
Full time and part time shifts are available. Please let us know your availability with your application.
Skills and experience
All of our Car Parkers need to have:
Excellent customer service and front of house skills
Previous festival or events environment experience is desirable
Because of Charleston’s rural location all applicants must have a current UK driving licence and the use of a car or have guaranteed lifts. Charleston is not served by public transport and the timings for the festival shuttle bus are not suitable for Festival staff. Please give careful consideration to your transport options before applying.
To apply: Please email a CV, covering letter detailing relevant experience and stating your availability over the Festival period and the contact details of two referees to Emily Hill, firstname.lastname@example.org
Please note that preference will be given to applicants who are flexible and can commit to all of the Festival dates.
All applications received will be acknowledged.
Deadline for applications is by 12 noon on Friday 15th September 2017. Telephone interviews will take place for those shortlisted and a designated time will be given in advance to each applicant.
