The Activities with this story total 100 points.

This packet explains all three activities as well as how they are graded!!! No Surprises Here!! And Don’t Forget: The first day your work is late it is then a 50% after that it is a 0%.



Activity One = 25 Points
Create a plot chart for the story.

Be sure to include all the necessary parts of a plot.

This activity is due on Friday August 17th, 2012.

Activity Two = 25 Points
You will need to follow the Retelling Guide in order to write a summary of the story. Each step in the Retelling Guide is considered to be a sentence. This Activity is due on Thursday August 23, 2012.


Activity Three = 50 Points
You will need to complete a Literature test based on All Summer in a Day. The review sheet is included in this packet. The test will be on Friday August 24, 2012. We will review for the test on the 21st.

Retelling Guide

Remember each step should create a sentence.




  1. Begin with the title and the author of the story. Then, tell where and when the story takes place.

Ex: The book Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone written be J.K. Rowling takes place at both Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry and in London, England during the present day time period.


  1. Tell the characters names, and explain how the characters are related or connected to one another.

Ex: The main character in the book is Harry Potter who has just found out that he is a Wizard and has been accepted to Hogwarts School.


  1. What is the main characters conflict or problem?

Ex: Harry has quite a few adventures in this book but his main conflict is staying alive while his enemies are attempting to kill him.


  1. Describe 3 complications that happen while the main character is trying to solve the conflict.

Ex: During the story Harry and his friend Ron save Hermione from a troll, Harry learns to play Quidditch, and he becomes a piece in a life size chess game.



  1. Describe the climax, when you find out how the character will overcome the conflict or be defeated.

Ex: Harry discovers the Stone in his pocket and tries to kill Voltemort until he blacks out.


  1. Resolution: Tell what happens after the climax of the story, how does the story end.

Ex: Harry awakens in the infirmary to Dumbledore congratulating him and he wins the cup for his house, Gryffindor.


  1. Add your own thoughts about the story.

Ex: I really enjoyed this story, I think everyone should read it at least once, it not only has adventure, like when Hermoine is saved, but also suspense when Harry blacks out.
