The Gospel story is the greatest story ever told but is becoming another untold story to so many. It’s a story you need to know and obey to save your life. We tell it here in a short and simple form. And we tell the rest of the untold Gospel story that most churches do not tell. It’s called the Gospel story and it is where we get the term “gospel truth.” Gospel means good news, and it is good news that overcomes the bad news. The bad news is that all of us have sinned.
Romans 3:23 says “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”.
Sin is a transgression of Gods laws, or rules, for us.
1 John 3:4 tells us that “Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness and sin is lawlessness”
and the wages of sin is death. In other words, the penalty for what we have done is death.
Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
The story begins in the Garden of Eden where Adam and Eve lived. There was one tree there that was off limits so to speak. The command or law of a just God was that they could not eat of the fruit of that tree. You read this in the greatest storybook written, that is the Bible, in Genesis chapter 3. Eve was tempted and deceived by the devil, also known as Satan, and ate of the tree and gave it to her husband Adam and he did eat. They both thus sinned. The Bible teaches that sin is the transgression of God’s law or in other word the breaking of it.
Again, I read 1 John 3:4 “Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness and sin is lawlessness.”
God is just and thus the penalty for breaking the law, or in other words the penalty for sin, is death. The sentence of death fell not only on Adam and Eve but their descendents. We are told this in
Romans 5:12, “Therefore just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin; and so death spread to all men, because all sinned.”
Well that’s the bad news. Now, for the good news, the Gospel. Jesus Christ the perfect sinless Son of God said to his father, God the Father, “Father let me die for them.” That would fulfill the justice of God. Someone would pay the penalty for sin, the Son of God.
The bible tells us in John 1:1, “In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God.”
It further tells us that that word became flesh and dwelt among us in John 1:14 “And the word became flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld his glory, glory as of the only begotten from the father full of grace and truth.”
It tells us, God, out of love for us, let Him die for us. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”
We are further told in I Peter 3:18, “For Christ also died for sins, once for all the just for the unjust, in order that he might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit.”
Jesus died, was buried in a tomb, and on the third day arose from the dead. This is called the Gospel, the Gospel story. The Apostle Paul wrote and said, I quote 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 “Now I make known to you brethren the Gospel, which I preach to you, which also you received, and which also you stand by, which also you are saved. If you hold fast the word, which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day according to the scriptures.”
Now here is the untold part of that Gospel story, untold by most churches. Most churches
teach the truth that one must believe the Gospel. But fail to tell that the Gospel must also be obeyed and fail to tell how it can be obeyed. As we said the Gospel story is the death, the burial, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Just as the Apostle said in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, let me read it again, “Now I make known to you brethren the Gospel, which I preach to you, which also you received, and which also you stand, by which also you are saved. If you hold fast the word, which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day according to the scriptures.”
You must believe, you must believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life”.
There is no salvation from sin without belief. Acts chapter 16 verse 31 says and I read, “And they said believe in the Lord Jesus and you shall be saved, you, and your household.” But that’s not all there is to the Gospel story. The rest of the untold Gospel story is you must also obey it, the Gospel. The Bible tells us we must obey the Gospel. Listen as I read to you 2 Thessalonians 1:6-8, “For after all it is only just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels and flaming fire. Dealing out retribution to those who do not know God, and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Let me read that last phrase again, “Dealing our retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus”
Obeying the Gospel, that is done by obeying the words of the Apostle Peter who was
given the keys to the Kingdom. We read of that in Matthew 16, Jesus said, “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven.” It was Peter, the Apostle Peter, who stood up on the day of Pentecost, which was fifty days after His death, burial and resurrection, and spoke to the people.
I read what was said there in Acts chapter 2 verses 36-38 “Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you have crucified. Now when they heard this they were pierced to the heart and said to Peter, and the rest of the Apostles, ‘Brethren what shall we do?’ And Peter said to them, repent and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Here is how the Gospel is obeyed, when one obeys the above command of the Apostle Peter.
In the Gospel story, which you must believe, Jesus died for our sins. When the believer in
Jesus Christ repents of his sins that repentance is likened unto death. Romans 6:2 says, “How shall we who died to sin still live in it?” It is where one surrenders ones self-will to the will of Jesus Christ. And thus can honestly pray thy will be done, not my will. He becomes the master. The burial is baptism.
True bible baptism is not a sprinkling or pouring; it is immersion in water where one is completely buried under the water. We read in Romans 6:4, “Therefore we have been buried with him through baptism unto death. In order that is Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father so we too might walk in newness of life.” There is only one baptism acceptable to God. Ephesians 4:4-5 says, and I read, “There is one body and one spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling, one lord, one faith, one baptism.” And that one baptism is immersion in water for, and I repeat, FOR the forgiveness of sins, and it is done in the name of Jesus Christ. Be careful here for here is where many a church and preacher mislead the people. Baptist churches are notorious for this. They immerse in water but not for the forgiveness of sins. They do it as what they call an outward sign of an inward grace. They do not do it for the forgiveness or remission of sins. They do it claiming the sin is already forgiven or remitted.
“Yashuha, Whoaweah,” or whatever nonsensical name they come up with that’s not found in the Bible. Believe the Gospel and obey it. The Gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. When you as a believer repent you die, are baptized you are buried, and when you are raised up out of that water you are raised to walk in newness of life, for your sins have been washed away, and you have received the gift of the Holy Spirit. Believe the Gospel and obey it.
Again, let us consider the simple command of Acts 2:38 that is not taught for the most part in most religious circles, “And Peter said to them repent and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, for the forgiveness of your sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
When you do that, you are born again of the water, and the spirit, and you receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” The Holy Spirit, who leads you into more truth, and assists you in directing your life. If you don’t obey the Gospel, you don’t get into the Kingdom. Jesus said in John 3:5, “Truly, Truly I say to you, unless one is born of water and the spirit he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God.”
To get baptized you can write us and we can assist you in getting someone to baptize you. Also we would point out to you that most Christian churches, and Churches of Christ, baptize properly, and if contacted, would most likely gladly baptize you. When you obey the Gospel, you are born again. But newborns must have food to grow. Your food is reading the Bible daily, meditating on it, and doing as it directs you. 1 Peter 2:2 says, “Like newborn babes, long for the pure milk of the word, that by it you may grow in respect to salvation.” You also need to make a communion a part of your new life. Communion is the sacrament of the eating of the unleavened bread and drinking of the fruit of the vine. For teaching on this, order the book Communion: Its Potential Blessings and Curses. We will send it to you free of charge, although a small donation to help cover the postage and handling would be appreciated, but it is not necessary. You write to us at:
