Never, Ever, Give Up, Jim Collins

Leading on the Edge of Hope
Christine Caine

  • Nationally acclaimed business thinker, Jim Collins serves as a teacher to leaders throughout the corporate and social sectors.

  • Author of the best-selling books Good to Great and Built to Last, he is a student of companies – how they grow, how they attain superior performance, and how good companies can become great companies. Both books attained long-running positions on the BusinessWeek best-seller lists and have been translated in numerous languages.

  • His latest book is How the Mighty Fall: And Why Some Companies Never Give In. In it, Jim has again conducted extensive research – this time into the subject of companies that have gone into decline. And, as usual, he has discovered some fascinating patterns. He describes how leaders can identify some of the challenges within their organizations and explores steps that can be taken to reverse negative patterns and flourish anew.

  • A repeat Summit faculty member for the 4th time, Jim’s insights have helped many of us propel our leadership to new levels of effectiveness.

  • An avid rock climber, he lives in Boulder, Colorado.

  • How the Mighty Fall (PROP)

Description: By understanding the stages of decline, leaders can substantially reduce their chances of falling all the way to the bottom. Great companies can stumble, badly, and recover. Every institution, no matter how great, is vulnerable to decline. There is no law of nature that the most powerful will inevitably remain at the top. Anyone can fall and most eventually do. But, as Jim’s research emphasizes, some companies do indeed recover.
------------------------------------------- MESSAGE: Jim Collins ------------------------------------------------

  • ABOUT the WCA – How the mighty fall and NEVER GIVE UP has helped the WCA in the past year….

  • About the WCA: In 1992, the WCA grew out of a whisper—a desire to network together church leaders who were tired of churches not reaching out and being irrelevant. We have since grown into a global network of 11,000 Member Churches that spans over 90 denominations.  There is more information about ways you can connect with us year-round beginning on page 67 of your notebook.

When leaders are changed, they lead differently. Our focus is to help Christian leaders worldwide make the kind of difference that God intended from the beginning when God invited church. His plan A to redeem and restore the world is the church. We believe that when the church is working right, its because it’s leaders are pioneering and doing new things and leading well. Every time you lead, it’s lonely. And that’s where the WCA comes in- to come along side leaders and provide them with tools, resources, and inspiration. Here’s Christine Caine, who is all about hope. That’s who we are, and Christine Caine is all about what we do.

  • A rising voice in the global church, Christine Caine is passionate about helping people lead authentic lives for God and seeing the local church flourish across the earth.

  • Christine has served on the leadership team and as a pastor at Hillsong Church in Sydney Australia for 20 years. She also directs Equip & Empower Ministries, an international ministry which has afforded her the opportunity to consult with churches around the globe and increase the reach of her speaking ministry.

  • In 2007, she founded The A21 Campaign, an organization dedicated raising awareness of issues surrounding human trafficking. A21 also provides safe houses to provide care and healing for victims in Greece, which is a major trafficking destination in Europe.

  • A passionate voice for building the local church globally, she is the author of several books including Can I Have (and do) It All, Please? And The Core Issue: Authentic Living that Impacts the World.

  • She travels extensively, ministering around the globe with her husband and ministry partner Nick and their two daughters Catherine and Sophia.

  • The Core Issue by Christine Caine (PROP)

Description: In The Core Issue, Christine helps us to see that an authentic faith that out witness to those around us stems from an internal heart transformation… a transformation of our core being through loving God with our hearts, souls, and minds that allows us to go into all the world an make disciples. Includes a 31-day devotional for doing life from the core of who we are.

  • Jim Mellado AND Wess Stafford

  • Jim takes the stage & sets up the partnership with Compassion International.  (30 seconds) “Many of you remember Wess Stafford—President of Compassion International—who last year gave one of the most emotionally charged and moving messages we’ve had in the Summit . . . as we’ve moved forward in partnership together, the Willow Creek Association and Compassion International have identified a huge need in the Church.  In churches and communities and developing nations, as well as an equally important need for those churches who have been blessed with an abundance of resources.  Take a look . . .”

  • COMPASSION VIDEO: (3 minutes, 30 seconds), Wess Stafford joins Jim Mellado on stage during video

  • Brief stand-up interview between Jim and Wess (2 minutes, 30 seconds)

Jimmy:  What are some practical examples of what that partnership looks like? (half-minute answer)
Jimmy:  What makes it a two way street?  In other words, what’s the need that’s being filled in the more affluent, resourced churches? (half-minute answer)
Jimmy:  Thanks Wess, interested pastors can text the word “CHURCH” to 90999 or fill out the card and turn it in as you leave clean ending (no toss to Bill, for editing purposes)

Out of the findings of REVEAL, we are developing a new way to serve church leaders… by helping the individuals in their congregation benefit from the spiritual life survey. Seven churches have joined us to develop an integrated, church-wide, web-based system that will immensely strengthen your efforts to help your people grow spiritually in the context of your church. • She resides in Delaware with her husband and four children.

----------------------------------------MESSAGE: TERRI KELLY VIDEOCAST --------------------------------------------------

  • Dan Pink is the author of four provocative books about the changing world of work — including the New York Times bestsellers, A Whole New Mind and Drive, which together have been translated into 28 languages.

  • His latest book, Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us, uses 50 years of behavioral science to overturn conventional wisdom about human motivation. Released in December 2009, Drive was listed on every national bestseller list in its first month of publication and is now in its sixth month on The New York Times list.

  • He lives in Washington DC with his wife and their three children.

  • Drive (PROP) Forget everything you thought you knew about how to motivate people--at work, at school, at home. It's wrong. As Daniel H. Pink explains in his new and paradigm- shattering book Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us, the secret to high performance and satisfaction in today's world is the deeply human need to direct our own lives, to learn and create new things, and to do better by ourselves and our world. He demonstrates that while the old-fashioned carrot-and-stick approach worked successfully in the 20th century, it's precisely the wrong way to motivate people for today's challenges.

--------------------------------------------------------MESSAGE: DAN PINK --------------------------------------------------
