ROMANS 8 VERSE I There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Whilst every passage in the Bible is significant, this could be the jewel in the crown.
Paul wrote Romans in A.D. 57 nearing the end of his 3rd missionary journey.
Whilst the 4 gospels present the words and works of Jesus of Nazareth, Romans explores the significance of his death and resurrection and it's formidable application for us in our lives.
Using a question and answer method Paul presents powerful life changing doctrine.
This is the singular most important passage of the Bible for any Christian to understand.
READ CHAPTER TOGETHER.-
This chapter begins with NO CONDEMNATION
It's middle is all about NO DEFEAT.
1. Read the correct Bible. 99.99% of our English Bible is an accurate translation of the Greek and Hebrew texts.
Even the discovery of the dead sea scrolls in 1948 confirmed the same.
BUT in this all important passage-an error occurs in some of the KJV derived Bibles.
If you use such a Bible-like the MKJV-you will notice that there are 10 words in italics. These 10words are not in the original, but added. No one knows why-but it's likely that the translator either made a mistake or the message is too good to be true!
The words add a condition-where there isn't one.
2. 4 key words
Condemnation- A forensic term which includes both the sentence and the execution of the sentence. It results in penal servitude.
Now-Is a time word-marks a point of significant change. Has this change happened to you?
No- In our English it's weak as compared with the Greek. the word used (oude not ou) means not only NO-but "No he is not or ever could be-it is quite impossible to ever again be in a state of condemnation."
Therefore-When you see a "therefore" always ask what's it's there fore?. Referring back to Romans 1 and Romans 5.
3. A change of address. In Christ Jesus. Consider the story of an art collector.
THERE IS NO GREATER STATEMENT IN THE BIBLE
THERE IS NOTHING BEYOND THIS.
God justifies a man whilst he is still ungodly-BEFORE he is in Christ
Consequently he is placed in Christ.
If I am in Christ-then what is his is mine.
If you discover this-you will discover the most glorious truth you will know in your entire life.
ROMANS 8 PART 2
WHAT WOULD YOUR FRIENDS SAY ABOUT VERSE 1? There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. v1 Did you inherit your faith?
Do you think deeply about it?
If you have never had doubts-you probably don't have real faith.
Face the doubts-think deeply on them-engage with others-and become convinced.
1. Why do you think I am condemned?
The concept of original sin is foolishness to many-especially the good-morally upright person who always tries hard and means well.
Sin is not just breaking laws it's a life out of joint and relationship with God.
Sin is that despairing refusal to find your deepest identity in your relationship and service to God. Sin is seeking to become oneself, to get an identity, apart from him.
T.Keller The very first of the 10 commandments is "have no other gods before me", the primary way of defining sin is not just the doing of bad things, but the making of good things into ULTIMATE things.
Augustine. Both humility and centring is required.
Listen to these stories.
2. Why can't I just be me? 3. This is unfair-you mean Myra Hyndley could go to heaven? Exodus 15:13 Thou in thy mercy hast led forth the people which thou hast redeemed: thou hast guided them in thy strength unto thy holy habitation.
4. Free floating morality-and where do rights come from. 5. There can't be just one true religion- All major religions are equally valid and basically teach the same thing.
Those who adhere to this are making a dogmatic statement -without any substance- which they wish to impose on any religion.
They do the very thing that they forbid any faith follower to do.
Don't impose your view on me. They are not at all alike.
Buddhism does nor believe in a personal God-whilst Judaism/Islam and Christianity do-and believe this God will hold all men accountable at the end of their lives.
Ok-but respect my views and don't impose it on me. How can you hold back GOOD NEWS? God is not only personal-he's knowable, and since the Christian God is Love he sent his son.
6. A loving God will not send any one to hell. The Lord watches over those who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy.
Righteous anger is an expression of intense love.
Some think God will say "Had your chance, didn't take it-now you will suffer-straight to hell"
But we read
