The Spider’s Web

a.k.a. Barton’s Bar

Background

  • Purchased from Olicid’s father.

  • Located in Red Larch.

Purpose

  • Earn money.

  • Place to sleep.

  • Collect information.

  • Place for party to relax.

Theme

  • The theme of the bar is spiders. The outside of the bar is decorated to look like a giant spider.

  • The inside of the bar is dark, with torches in sconces providing most of the light. There are candles on each of the tables. Lanterns hang over the pool tables.

  • Fake spider webs cover the ceiling.

  • The waitresses wear skimpy spider outfits. They are all brunettes who wear blood-colored lipstick.

  • The walls have what appear to be mounted spider heads (fake). There are 4 paintings, each of a different type of spider.

  • On one corner of the stage is a 5’ statue of Lloth. If asked about it, Barton will say it’s just decoration and means nothing more than that.

  • On another corner of the stage is a giant trophy, with a list of engraved names. These are the winners of the annual costume contest – 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.

  • The 8-ball on each pool table has a picture of a spider on it.

  • All plates and glasses have images of spiders on them.

  • Waitresses ask the customers “What’ll be your poison, sir?”
  • All the drinks are named after spiders – e.g. Dwarven Venom, Arachnid Ale, Tarantella Wine, Bloody Mary, etc.

  • Prices are slightly higher than the going rate at other taverns. The idea is to keep out the riff-raff and cater to rich adventurers.

Hours of Operation

  • Open 24 hours.

VIP’s

  • VIP’s gain special benefits – discounts on food and drinks, discounts on rooms, and no cover charges.

  • VIP’s are not required to check their weapons at the door.

  • VIP’s may use the Spider’s Nest (a VIP room) for free. Advanced reservations are normally required.

  • When there are special performances, a table near the stage is reserved for VIP’s.

  • A special card is issued to each VIP. VIP cards expire after one year.

  • All party members are VIP’s. Olicad and his father are VIP’s. Certain high ranking members of the Thieves’ Guid are VIP’s.

  • Loyal customers who frequent the bar, who bring in business, or do other things to help the bar may be considered for VIP status.

  • The manager, Graythorn, and Barton can give out VIP cards.

Cover Charge

  • Cover charge from sundown until sunup – 2 sp.

  • Never any cover for patrons wearing costumes. The bouncers decide if a costume is good enough.

  • Never a cover for VIP’s.

Rooms / Layout

  • Consists of 2 floors and a cellar. Each floor is about 50’ x 40’ (2000 sq. feet per floor).

  • Ground floor is the bar. Top floor is an inn. Cellar contains inventory and is where Barton lives.
  • Guests can leave their horses at a small stable just outside the inn. Barton leaves his pony there.

  • Ground floor has no windows and two doors – the main entrance and a back door behind the bar. The back door is always locked.

  • The top floor has a window in each guest room.

  • The cellar has a secret door which leads to a tunnel, which leads to the sewers.
