Once again the Wanaque School District will have a summer reading program in place for our students. The program is designed to help promote the love of reading and to ensure that our students will retain the reading skills they learned throughout the year in second grade.
Listed below is a list of recommended books that third grade children often enjoy. Your child may choose at least three books on his/her own or from the list to read. We ask that you help your child complete the “Home Reading Record” for each book completed. When the children return to school in September with their sheet, the teachers will be graphing the number of books read over the summer.
The following tips may help you keep your child engaged in the reading process:
Get your child a library card at your local public library. It’s free!
Read to your child or with your child every day. Take advantage of “waiting” time to share books: on trips, at the doctor’s office, in line at the grocery store.
Set a good example: read on your own and talk to your child about what you are reading.
