Becoming a Contagious Christian

Session 3: Sharing God’s Story and Your Story

Key verse: 1 Peter 3:15

Telling “The Story”
God – “Loving Father”

A. God is love – John 4:16

B. God is holy (absolutely pure) – 1 Peter 1:16

C. God is just (a good judge) – Deuteronomy 32:4

Us – “Lawbreakers”

A. We were created good but became sinful – Romans 3:23

B. We deserve death, both physical and spiritual – Romans 6:23
C. We are spiritually helpless, or morally bankrupt – Isaiah 64:6
Christ – “Hero”

A. Christ is God, who became man and lived a holy life – John 1:1, 14; 2 Corinthians 5:21

B. Christ died as our substitute – 1 Peter 2:24
C. Christ’s forgiveness is a gift – Ephesians 2:8-9
You – “Recipients”

A. We receive forgiveness – 1 John 1:8-9

B. We receive empowerment – Romans 8:9

Telling how you fit into The Story

-Life without Jesus, experienced or imagined

1. Before becoming a Christian

2. A time in your life when you strayed from God

3. How life would have been without God

How did (would) your distance from God affect you – your feelings, attitudes, actions, relationships, and ability to deal with hardship?

-Life with Jesus

What difference does Jesus make in your life? What benefits do you experience by being a Christian?

How does a relationship with God affect you – your feelings, attitudes, actions, relationships, and ability to deal with hardship?

The skeptic may deny your doctrine or attack your church, but he cannot honestly ignore the fact that your life has been changed.”

-Chuck Swindoll, Come before Winter

Gospel illustrations:
1. DO vs. DONE

“Once and for all” – Hebrews 7:27, 9:12, 10:10

2. Bridge

Colossians 1:19-20

Ephesians 3:12

Recent comments by Pope Francis:

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: 'I am talking with you in order to persuade you,' No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.”
