The following activities are ideas and teaching tips that could be incorporated for enriching the Waterford Interactive Lesson.

Look for different versions of story and compare and contrast characters, setting, and conclusion.

Compare and contrast

Use a chart to compare and contrast duck and swan. (See added flipchart)


Integrated Curriculum

Ideas

Language Arts/Social Studies

Study the biography of Hans Christian Andersen and look for other stories he has written.

Math

Make a graph on days that takes for different eggs to hatch. (duck, swan, turkey, chicken)

Science

What’s in an egg? Study the parts of an egg. Life cycle.

Materials

Adjectives – The Ugly Duckling is full of adjectives, including its title.

Masters and work sheets – page 279 - Practice adjectives.

Adjectives song – use as an initial activity to build knowledge or for review.

Print song and have students identify adjectives used within lyrics.
