Key Vocabulary

  1. Amontillado- A pale, dry Spanish sherry.

  2. Catacombs- An underground cemetery, especially one consisting

of tunnels and rooms with recesses dug out for coffins and tombs.

  1. Niter- A naturally occurring mineral form of potassium nitrate. It is used to make gunpowder.
  2. Carnival season- a festive season which occurs immediately before Lent. Carnival typically involves a public celebration or parade and public street party. People often dress up or masquerade during the celebrations.
