Block A Unit 3

Write numbers in figures and words, explain and extend number sequences, missing numbers in sequences, rounding numbers to the nearest 10.

Due to SATS assessments in week 5, we will be focusing on the nighttime/nocturnal animals during some topic sessions. Therefore, we may not fit in all other topic sessions this term.

Science – Unit 2F Using Electricity. Understand that everyday appliances use electricity. Chn to separate pictures into electrical and non-electrical items (cutting and sticking activity)

ICT – Find information online to answer questions about nocturnal animals.
Night- What are nocturnal animals? Focus on the features and behaviour of foxes.
Geography – Unit 4 Going to the seaside – What is the seaside? Why do we like to go there? Chn to identify the main features of the seaside.


Music – ongoing skills. Mrs Dennis to plan and deliver music lessons (Every Friday, 11.15)
Art - Focus on Vincent Van Gogh. Chn to look at and discuss the painting ‘The Starry Night.’ Chn to then recreate the picture by drawing in pencil and colouring in pastels.


PSHE – Going for Goals. Setting goals and targets. Why is it important to set goals for ourselves? What goals can we set ourselves? How do we feel when we have reached a goal/aim? Class discussion.
RE – Unit 8 Why is our world so special? Introduce chn to the creation story.

Geography – Unit 4 Going to the seaside – Chn to label the physical and human features of the seaside.

Art – Chn to create a picture of Horrid Henry. Chn to focus on his character – how can you show that he is a naughty/sneaky character?


PSHE – Going for Goals. Persistence and resilience. Meaning of these two words. Sometimes we feel like we don’t want to carry on or persevere, but how do we feel when we do? Why is it important to carry on? How can we overcome boredom/frustration?
RE – Unit 8 Why is our world so special? Discuss creation story from last session. Chn to sequence the story.

Unit 4 – Games activities.

Warm up – Sharks

Striking and fielding games. Focus on hitting the ball away from opponents. Practise the skills of hitting the ball away and then play small rounders games.

Identify properties of 2-digit and 3-digit numbers, use knowledge of properties of numbers to identify a secret number, pairs of numbers that make 20, pairs of 10s that make 100.

ICT – Chn to use typing skills to create a PowerPoint presentation about the nighttime.
Night – Focus on the features and behaviour of bats.
Geography – Unit 4 Going to the seaside – Chn to write a postcard explaining all about a seaside holiday – what have you seen/heard? What fun things have you done? How do you feel?

Art – Chn to choose a nocturnal animal we have learnt about. Chn to use clay to create a model of that animal.


PSHE – Going for Goals. What are your strengths? Do you have a special talent? The importance of believing in yourself and having high self-esteem. Chn to write what their strengths on a post – it note and share with other chn.
RE – Unit 8 Why is our world so special? Exploring the world around us. Amazing things in our word e.g. mountains, volcanoes, oceans. How can we describe these things? How do they make us feel?

Invasion games. Chn to learn the skill of moving into space and communicating with team members to receive the ball.

Science – Unit 2F Using Electricity. Exploring circuits. Chn to make a buzzer/bulb light up and draw a diagram of their circuit.

Night – Focus on the features and behaviour of owls.
Geography – Unit 4 Going to the seaside – What were seaside holidays like in the past? Chn to explore seaside holidays in the past and compare them to today.


Music – ongoing skills. Mrs Dennis to plan and deliver music lessons (Every Friday, 11.15)
Art – Chn to use paper plates and paint/card to create their own owl (link to work on nocturnal animals)

As it is SATS week, we are going to be having afternoon/sessions of sports activities. This will be as a class and with other Y2 classes. We will be playing games such as – rounders, cricket, football and obstacle courses.

Chn to write and perform their own haikus based on the theme of ‘What am I?’

Block C Unit 3

Measuring, in litres and centimetres, read the numbered divisions on a scale and interpret divisions between them, sort objects into a Carroll diagram.

Science – Unit 2F Using Electricity. Circuits, Chn to explore how to make a broken circuit work. Chn to use diagrams of circuits to predict whether they will work and explain why.

Geography – Unit 4 Going to the seaside – Seaside holidays around the world. Chn to use secondary sources (leaflets, brochures) to learn about and write a report about seaside holidays in other countries.
